1. Extract based Question

Read the following lines and answer the questions that follow.

When will the bell ring, and end this weariness?


How long have they tugged the leash, and strained apart?
My pack of unruly hounds: I cannot start
Them again on a quarry of knowledge they hate to hunt,
I can haul them and urge them no more.

a. What is the tone of the poem? Give examples


from the extract to support your answer.

The tone is evidently anger and vexation

depicted majorly by the description the author

has provided . the author describes the students


as unruly hound and further uses a pun ,’they

hate to hunt to show uncouth behaviour and

how uninterested they are in learning . he also

b. Why does the teacher want the bell to


ring?

The teacher is extremely tired of having to put

up with the students ‘ disrespectful behavior .he

awaits the ringing of the bell signifying the end of

the school day , to put an end to his weariness.

c. Analyse the phrase --‘pack of unruly


hounds.’
The phrase “ pack of unruly hounds” is a metaphor
and it compares the students to the hounds . the
teacher has described their difficult to manage
Behaviour by saying that their indiscipline and
disruptive. He does this to show us that he feels

acting like unruly
