The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (ARE) calls upon the Vice-
Chancellor to present the Candidate for the conferment of
the Honorary Degree of the University of Embu.
The Vice-Chancellor reads citation for the award and

conferment of the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters,
Honoris Causa on the candidate.
The Chancellor confers the degree and resumes his seat.
The Vice Chancellor invites graduate to give her
acceptance speech.
10.15 a.m. CONFERMENT OF DEGREES AND AWARD OF

HONORARY DEGREE
DOCTOR OF HUMANE LETTERS (HONORIS CAUSA)

The Vice-Chancellor will rise and present the candidate for the conferment
of the Honorary Degree (Honoris Causa) of the University of Embu.
The Vice-Chancellor will read out the citation on the candidate and call
upon the candidate to come forward.
The candidate will walk towards the dais and will be robed by the Dean,
School of Education and Social Sciences.
The candidate will then kneel before the Chancellor.
The Chancellor will then rise, cap the graduand and confer the degree by
saying:
“I admit you to the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters (Honoris

Causa), and by my authority and that of the entire University,
give power to read and to do all that appertains to this degree”
The Graduate will then bow/curtsy.
The Graduate will then pose for a photograph with the Chancellor.
The Vice-Chancellor will then invite Dr. Margaret Mumbi Gikuhi to give
her acceptance speech.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY
The Dean, School of Business and Economics; Dean, School of
Agriculture; and Dean, School of Pure and Applied Sciences will rise
and present their candidates for the conferment of the degree of Doctor of
Philosophy of the University of Embu. As the Deans read out the names
and the titles of their study, the candidate will walk towards the dais
escorted by his/her supervisors and kneel before the Chancellor.
The Chancellor will then cap the graduand.
The Graduand will then bow/curtsy and remain standing until the
conferment of the degree.

The Dean will invite the Chairperson of the Department (CoD) of

Community Health to take the Graduands of the Bachelor of Science in
Nursing through the Nurses’ Pledge.
The CoD will lead the Graduands in reciting the Nurses’ Pledge.
The CoD will then acknowledge the Chancellor and resume his/her seat.
The Chancellor will then rise and confer the degree, by saying:
“I admit you to the degree for which you have been educated, trained,

NURSES PLEDGE
I (Name of Graduand) do solemnly
swear, before the Almighty God and in the presence of this assembly,
to observe the Nurses’ Code of Ethics and Conduct.
I shall faithfully practice my profession in accordance with the laid
down laws and regulations as provided for in the Nurses Act Cap. 257 of
the Laws of Kenya
I shall abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous and shall
not take or knowingly administer any harmful drug.
I shall do all in my power to maintain and elevate the standard of my
profession.
I shall hold in confidence all personal matters committed to me and all
family affairs coming to my knowledge in the practice of my calling.
I shall endeavour to work in collaboration with other team members in
the provision of health care and devote myself to the welfare of those
committed to my care.
