Course Objectives: To develop ability to

 Understand the basics of fluid statics, kinematics and dynamics, used in the applications of
Aerodynamics, Hydraulics, Marine Engineering, Gas dynamics etc.
 Understand the importance of flow and pressure measurements and its applications in Industries
 Study the various losses in a flow system
 Recognize the basic design concepts of a pipe flow and a channel flow.
 Realize the significance of non-dimensional parameters.
 Carry out dimensional analysis and establish relationship between the dependent and independent
variables
 Understand boundary layer formation and concepts related to flow separation
 Understand flow past external bodies
Student Outcomes: The students will be able to

 Operate fluid flow equipment and related instrumentation.


 Choose the governing equations along with its boundary conditions for modeling a physical problem
 Design pipe flow equipment with minimum pressure losses
 Analyze the model and the prototype using different similarity laws
 Find the dependent and independent parameters for a model of fluid flow
 Understand the various methods available to prevent the boundary layer separation
