GENDER AND THE LAW

S.Y. 2023-2024
(2nd Sem)

Course Description

This course provides a comprehensive examination of the dynamic relationship between

gender and the law, exploring the fundamental concepts of Gender and Development (GAD)
and their significance in the legal context. Through an interdisciplinary approach, students will
analyze the legal mandates, international conventions, and constitutional provisions that
promote gender equality and challenge gender-based discrimination. The course delves into
the importance of gender-fair language and its impact on social norms. It further explores laws
addressing violence against women, emphasizing the protection of their rights and the
prevention of various forms of abuse. Additionally, labor-related laws relevant to gender
equality and work-life balance will be discussed, including laws combating discrimination,
supporting migrant workers, and addressing the unique needs of solo parents. Through
engaging lectures, discussions, quizzes and case studies, students will gain a deeper
