Generalities
Cameroon is a country located in
Central Africa. Its capital is
Yaoundé and the largest city is
Douala. Officially it is bilingual,
with French and English as official
languages. Its ethnic diversity
includes groups such as the
Bamiléké, the Bamoun and the
Fulbe. The Cameroonian economy is
based on agriculture, oil and gas.
Mount Cameroon is the highest
mountain in Central Africa.
Location and
boundaries
of Cameroon
Cameroon is located in Central Africa, bordered to
the west by Nigeria, to the north by Chad, to the east
by the Central African Republic, and to the south by
Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and the Gulf of Guinea. Its
geographical position gives it both cultural and
geographical diversity in the region.

Education in Cameroon faces several challenges, including lack of
adequate infrastructure, limited resources and inequality in
access to education between urban and rural areas, as well as
between different ethnic and socio-economic groups. However,
the Cameroonian government has taken steps to improve the
education system in recent years.

EDUCATION
A notable difference between Cameroon's education system and
some other countries is the language of instruction. Cameroon is a
multilingual country with around 250 different languages, but
French and English are the official languages used in education. This
is due to the country's colonial heritage, with an Anglophone part
and a Francophone part. This situation creates additional
challenges in terms of equitable access to education and the
quality of instruction in both languages, as well as the preservation
of local languages and cultures.
GOVERNMENT
SYSTEM

Cameroon's system of government is a unitary

republic with a semi-presidential system. The
president is the head of state and the prime minister
is the head of government. The president is elected
by popular vote for a seven-year term and can be re-
elected once. The prime minister is appointed by the
president and is responsible for overseeing the
administration of the government.
POPULATION

According to the most recent estimates,

the population of Cameroon is
approximately 27 million people. Cameroon
is home to great ethnic diversity, with
more than 200 different ethnic groups.
Some of the major ethnic groups include
the Bamileke, Fulani, Tikar, Sawa, Bamiléké,
Beti, and the Hausa people, among others.
Each ethnic group has its own distinctive
culture, language and traditions.
Cameroon's ethnic diversity is an
important feature of its national identity.
ECONOMY
Cameroon's economy is diverse, with sectors
such as agriculture, industry and services
contributing to its economic activity. The
main export products include oil, coffee,
cocoa, wood and aluminum products.
However, Cameroon also faces economic
challenges, such as poverty, corruption and
lack of adequate infrastructure.
CURRENCY
Cameroon's currency is the
Central African CFA Franc (XAF),
which is shared by several
countries in the region. The CFA
franc is pegged to the euro
through an agreement with
France and is backed by the
French Treasury. It is widely used
in Cameroon for commercial and
financial transactions. 1 West

CULTURE
Music and dance
Traditional dances have complex choreographies and
separate men and women so that it is prohibited for
both genders to dance together. The dances have
different purposes, ranging from pure entertainment to
religious reasons. Traditionally, musical knowledge is
transmitted through tradition oral. In a typical
performance, a choir accompanies a principal soloist. The musical accompaniment ranges from simple
claps and steps, to traditional instruments that
include bells used by dancers, drums, percussions,
flutes, horns, maracas, scrapers, stringed instruments,
whistles and xylophones. The exact combinations
vary between each ethnic group and region. Some
performers sing entire pieces on their own,
accompanied by a harp-like instrument.
Cameroon celebrates a wide range of festivals and
ceremonies that reflect the country's ethnic
diversity, such as the Mask Festival in the west, the
Ngondo Festival in Douala, and the Music Festival in
Yaoundé.

Cameroonian gastronomy is varied and delicious.

Dishes like Ndolé, Poulet DG, and Achu are very
popular. Additionally, the consumption of fresh
fish is common, especially in coastal regions.
