Generalities
Sweden is a Nordic country located on the Scandinavian
Peninsula in northern Europe. Stockholm has been its
permanent capital since 1523. Sweden, along with Norway,
occupies most of the peninsula and is the fifth largest country
in Europe.

It has a population of ten million people, of which 2 million are


under 18 years of age. 85% of its population lives and works in
urban areas and enjoys a high level of quality of life.

It is a country with a very rich and interesting history and


culture, which is why we provide you with some basic
information that you should know about this territory

Education in Sweden is free and compulsory for children aged 6 to
15.
The school year runs from the end of August to the beginning of
June.
It is divided into two stages:
Primary education: 6 to 12 years (6 courses).
Lower secondary education: 13 to 16 years (3 years).

After lower secondary education, students can choose between:


Baccalaureate program: 3 years, prepares for university.
Vocational training program: 2-3 years, prepares for a specific
job.
