PREPARED BY REVIEWED BY APPROVED BY (amr pays Pe Bled iager(QA & C) Manager (QA & C) HOD (QA & C) Ref No. WORK INSTRUCTION ESUIL/PIPE/LSAW/QC/03/WI = ‘Amd.n0.03 Rev. 00 SSAR © | peparement: quality Assurance & Control gaan Dents Document name: Preliminary visual inspection | Page no. : 02 of 04 4.0 PURPOSE: This work instruction is applicable for the In-process inspection of Longitudinal Submerged Arc Welded pipes manufactured by EStIL-pipe mill as per applicable specification and customer specification. 2.0 SCOPE: This work instruction is intended for knowing the status of the pipes at various inspections and testing stations, 3.0 RESPONSIBILITY: Personnel performing Pre-Visual Inspection shall be responsible for evaluation of indications during the examination and preparation of inspection reports. 4.0 PERSONNEL REQUIREMENTS : Personnel performing visual examination of the pipes at pre visual station shall be qualified in accordance with the company's qualification criteria, 5.0 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : Personnel performing the pre visual & dimensional inspection shall have annual vision test to assure natural or corrected near distance acuity so that they are capable of reading standard Jaeger (J-2 letters) test type charts for near vision. Equivalent near vision tests are acceptable and the record of eyes shall be maintained. 6.0 INSPECTION REQUIREMENTS & METHOD: 61 Each pipe shall be visually inspected to detect surface imperfections with a luminance of at least 300 Ix (30 foot-candles). If required, magnifying lens may be used for detecting surface imperfections, which are not clearly visible to the naked eyes. 62 Each pipe shall be inspected both from inside & outside for any visual defects such as dents, off set, off seam weld, hard spot, bead height, cracks, arc buns, laminations, slivers, under cuts, under fills etc. 63 Pipes are also checked randomly for bead height and off set of plate edge. 64 _ Ifany discontinuity observed in welding during the inspection the same can be repaired as per approved repair procedure. Before starting the repair the Rectification report is filled (Format No. : EStIL/PIPE/LSAW/QC/07/F) and approval of customer representative, if any will be taken. After the approval only the repair will be carried out. The pipe shall be inspected again for complete removal of defects after repair. 6.5 If defect is observed at the end of the pipe, and end repair is not allowed as customer specification than the defective area shall be cut off till the removal of defect within the permissible limits of length of pipes. 6.6 Any imperfection in the parent Metal having a depth greater than 12.5% of the specified wall thickness (or as specified in QAP/Process chart), measured from the surface of the pipe shall be considered defect and such defects shall be rectified as per approved procedure. The grinding shall blend the ground area with the contour of the pipe and removal of defect shall be verified by visual inspection. After this, the thickness shall be checked. If thickness is with in acceptance limit, the pipe shall be ‘accepted. If not, then the pipe shall be cut off provided after cut off, the pipe length is with in specified limits or else pipe shall be rejected If any pipe observed with any defect which is not meeting the requirements of the approved QAP/Process Chart shalll be cut-off till the removal of the defect or rejected. The rejected pipe shall be identified with RED color band on OD of one end circumferentially a product NCR shall be raised by the Inspector (QC). The rejected pipes shall be kept separately in the specified rejection area. The records of rejected pipe shall be maintained. After acceptance of the pipes, each pipe is forwarded to Next section, ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA: The acceptance criteria shall be as per approved process chart and/or QAP of the running order.
