HOW TO USE QRH2

This table gives the priorities when dealing with Emergency and Abnormal
situations.
- 1. Rapidly assess the situation to perform the adequate procedure.
- 2. For any RED light and Emergency procedure:
- Perform Phase 1 Memory items if any.
- Use QRH2 - EMERGENCY SIDE.
- 3. For any AMBER light:
- Use QRH2 - ABNORMAL SIDE.
- 4. For any FLAG on PFD:
- Use QRH2 - ABNORMAL SIDE - FLAGS ON PFD
- 5. For any other abnormal situation:
- Use QRH2 - ABNORMAL SIDE - per system.
Particular case for ENGINE flame out:
- If the engine integrity is not in doubt:
Use QRH2 - EMERGENCY SIDE - AIRSTART and apply the Restart
procedure.
- If the engine integrity is in doubt:
Use QRH2 - ABNORMAL SIDE - ENGINE and perform the Shut down
procedure.

PRESENTATION OF QRH2 LAYOUT

QRH2 is organized into an EMERGENCY side and ABNORMAL side.

Turning the manual upside down allows to switch from EMERGENCY side to
ABNORMAL side or vice-versa.

EMERGENCY side includes the following sections:

- QRH2 REVISION, EFFECTIVE SUB-SECTIONS and GENERAL sections
to address QRH2.
- Upper part (tab 1 to 6) dedicated to:
- EMERGENCY EVACUATION
- SMOKE
- RAPID DEPRESSURIZATION & EMERGENCY DESCENT
- ALL ENGINES OUT CONDITION
- TWO ENGINES INOPERATIVE
- AIRSTART
- Middle part (tab 10 to 25) is dedicated to:
- Red lights of the warning panel.
- Red lights of the fire warning panel.
- Amber lights associated to all generators failed and all hydraulic pumps
failed.
- Lower part (tab 30 to 35) is dedicated to:
- FORCED LANDING
- DITCHING
- SPECIFIC EMERGENCY SITUATIONS
- OPERATING TECHNIQUES
ABNORMAL side includes the two following sections:
- Warning panel lights (tabs 1 to 20)
Procedures are organized according to the Warning panel lights position.
Each tab corresponds to a row of the warning panel.
- FLAGS on PFD (tab 22).
- Procedures related to abnormal situations, with a classification of systems
in alphabetic order (tabs 24 to 40).
- AVIONICS

PRESENTATION OF PROCEDURE LAYOUT

Procedures in QRH2 present instructions to the crew for emergency and

abnormal situations. The presentation is identical to CODDE2 except for
improvements shown below.

Action items are presented in sequence with bullet: "".

- A bullet "" indicates a check item.
- Conditional branches are identified by a bullet: "". Conditional branches
can be nested into another one.
- Bullet color and indentation allow to differentiate the nesting level. The
sequence of actions is either the next one in the current level, or the next
one in the upper level.

A bullet "" in a conditional branch indicates the procedure is completed.

Otherwise, actions are to be performed until the end of the procedure
indicated by a green thick line. When the sequence of actions has to be
continued in another QRH2 procedure, this is shown by a bullet "" and the
QRH2 page is indicated.

DEFINITION OF NOTE, CAUTION AND WARNING

Used with respect to matters not directly related to safety but which are
particularly unusual or particularly important.

Used with respect to safety matters of a secondary order or not

immediately imminent.

USED WITH RESPECT TO SAFETY MATTERS OF A PRIMARY ORDER

OR IMMEDIATELY IMMINENT.

UNRELIABLE AIRSPEED

Frozen or abnormal pilot and copilot IAS / MI indications at high

altitude and possibly:
– AIRSPEED INDICATORS PERFORM LIKE ALTIMETERS
(airspeed decreasing in descent and increasing in climb),
– In climb: low speed cue rising up to a value such that the flight
envelope between LSC and MMO is reduced to a few kt,
– In descent: low speed cue decreasing with IAS,
– Illumination of one or both following lights:
MASTER + GONG: AIL FEEL, AUTO SLATS,
– VMO / MMO audio warning,
– MACH TRIM, AFCS-ADC MISCMP, ASCB AFCS 1-2 messages
in EID,
– IAS miscompare flag on PFD,
– AP disengagement and / or AP 1 or AP 2 annunciation on PFD,
– Disagreement with standby IAS / MI indications,
– The autothrottle (if connected) may command an inconsistent
progressive thrust change: either a thrust reduction towards the
stall or a thrust increase beyond VMO / MMO,
– In cruise / level flight: unusual pitch trim activity.

 PHASE 1
 Autothrottle ............................................................................. Disconnected
 Autopilot ..................................................................................... Disengaged
 YD .............................................................................................. Disengaged
 Avoid large displacements or rapid movements of control surfaces.
 Fly wings level.
 Stabilize airplane altitude using, if necessary, the standby altimeter:
 Pitch attitude ................................................... Between 1° and 3° nose up
 Engine power .......................................................... Smoothly fully forward

Stall aural warning remains reliable.

AOA path limit symbol in HUD (if installed) remains reliable.

 PHASE 2
 Do not apply AUTO SLATS - SLAT MONITORING SYSTEM procedure
(13). 32
 Do not apply IAS MISCOMPARE procedure (22).

Do not re-engage autopilot, YD or autothrottle before pitot probes

unblocking.

 Advise ATC that both displayed altitude and XPDR-reported altitude may
be unreliable and closely monitor trajectory of closest airplanes.

current flight altitude and airplane weight, using TAT as reference or
standard atmosphere temperature if TAT is not usable. (Performance
Manual 4-10 pages 8 to 12).
 Limit attitude to less than 4 nose up.

The IGN annunciation in the EID may be due to an excessive angle of attack

AILERON TRIM RUNAWAY

With autopilot engaged, RETRIM L WING DOWN or RETRIM R WING

DOWN light is illuminated on the EID. Nevertheless, the flight-crew can
possibly not detect the failure before the trim reaches full travel as autopilot
counteracts the roll.

 Aileron trim ...................................................Actuate in the opposite direction

 TRIM AILERON circuit breaker................................................................. Pull
 EMERG AILERON trim ........................................................ Trim the airplane

RUDDER TRIM RUNAWAY

With autopilot engaged, the flight-crew can possibly not detect the failure
before the trim reaches full travel as both yaw damper and autopilot
counteract the roll.

 Rudder trim ..................................................Actuate in the opposite direction

 Control wheel .................................................................. Maintain wings level
 Rudder pedals......................................................................... Cancel sideslip

TCAS RA - RESOLUTION ADVISORY

 Disconnect the autopilot and the autothrottle.

 Promptly and smoothly manually perform the evasive maneuver.
 The resolution advisories (RAs) are presented on the pitch scale (PFD) as
an order in path.
 If stall, GPWS or windshear occurs:
 Immediately stop the evasive maneuver.
 Perform the procedure corresponding to the warning in progress.

Once an RA has been issued, safe separation could be compromised if

current vertical speed is changed, except as necessary to comply with
the RA. This is because TCAS II to TCAS II coordination may be in
progress with the intruder airplane, and any change in vertical speed
that does not comply with the RA may negate the effectiveness of the
other airplane’s compliance with the RA.

FLIGHT WITH SUSPECTED BLOCKED PITOT PROBES

Frozen or abnormal pilot, copilot and possibly standby IAS / MI

indications and possibly:
– AIRSPEED INDICATORS PERFORM LIKE ALTIMETERS
(decreasing in descent and increasing in climb),
– In climb: low speed cue rising up to a value such that the flight
envelope between LSC and MMO is reduced to a few kt,
– In descent: low speed cue decreasing with IAS,
– Illumination of one or both following lights:
MASTER + GONG: AIL FEEL, AUTO SLATS,
– VMO / MMO audio warning,
– MACH TRIM, AFCS-ADC MISCMP, ASCB AFCS 1-2 messages
in EID,
– IAS miscompare flag on PFD,
– AP disengagement and / or AP 1 or AP 2 annunciation on PFD,
– Disagreement with standby IAS / MI indications,
– In cruise / level flight: unusual pitch trim activity.

Stall aural warning remains reliable.

AOA path limit symbol in HUD (if installed) remains reliable.

 Do not apply AUTO SLATS - SLAT MONITORING SYSTEM procedure

 Advise ATC that both displayed altitude and XPDR-reported altitude may
be unreliable and closely monitor trajectory of closest airplanes.
 When conditions permit, set N1 corresponding to Mach cruise = 0.77 at
current flight altitude and airplane weight, using TAT as reference or
standard atmosphere temperature if TAT is not usable (see Performance
Manual 4-10 pages 8 to 12).

 AIRBRAKES ................................................................................... Position 1

 Pitch attitude .................................................. Between 0° and 2° nose down
 Vertical speed indicator ............................. Between -2,000 and -3,000 ft/mn

An indicated airspeed increasing in descent is a good evidence of the pitot

probes unblocking.

Descent should cause airspeed and total air temperature to increase thereby
facilitating the pitot probes unblocking and a return to correct IAS indication
after about 2 minutes. From that moment on, FPA and VS may become
inaccurate for about 3 seconds and then should return to a correct indication.

1 - Check airplane altitude frequently on the standby altimeter.

2 - If prior to the problems, flight was performed at a static temperature lower
than the authorized minimum limit (see QRH1 10-15), descend as soon as
possible until air-data indications are back to normal.

Illumination of each green gear light takes more than 30 seconds.

 LH and RH gear lights .........................................................Green - Checked

 If LH or RH green gear light has disappeared:
 Gently re-apply full rudder to the relevant direction while accelerating to
190 KIAS (VLO) until corresponding green gear light illuminates again.
 Gently come back to neutral rudder.
 Then extend the nose gear:
 NOSE GEAR EMERGENCY ............................................................ Pulled
 Accelerate until illumination of green gear light is achieved (190 KIAS
max.).

At any time, as soon as the three landing gears are locked down:
- Do not actuate landing gear controls,
- Keep the landing gear down. 36

F900EX LANDING GEAR AND BRAKE AND 4/4
QRH2 STEERING - 36

LANDING GEAR ABNORMAL CONFIGURATION

 If for some reason the gear configuration is still not “down and
locked” after completion of the FREE FALL EXTENSION procedure:
 Braking performance is unknown, thus the computed landing distance is
unreliable.
 Select an appropriate airfield maximizing the landing field length.
 Reduce the landing weight (higher fuel consumption).
 Fly a precautionary landing.
 Be ready for an emergency evacuation.
 Additional recommendations:
 If nose gear is not locked down:
 Touchdown on main wheels, like for normal landing.
 Maintain back pressure on the yoke, keeping the airplane nose up as
long as possible. Then, while elevators remain effective, gently
release the back pressure, accompanying the nose down to the
ground. If possible avoid the runway centerline lights.
 Do not brake before the nose gear is on the ground. Use differential
braking to maintain the runway centerline.
 If one main gear is not locked down:
 Touchdown on the half side of the runway corresponding to the
extended main gear.
 Then maintain wings level as long as the ailerons remain effective.
 And maintain the runway centerline with rudder and nose wheel
steering controls.
 When the wing hits the runway, firmly brake to counteract veering.
AFTER THE AIRPLANE HAS COME TO REST:
 Apply EMERGENCY EVACUATION procedure (see QRH2 - Emergency
side -1). 

NOSE WHEEL SHIMMY

 Hold the nose wheel steering control depressed.

STEERING SYSTEM INOPERATIVE

 Release or return steering control to neutral position.
