Piercing our soundtrack. Once. Twice. Three times. We


know what this means. We know what’s coming next...
2 SMASH IN ON: 2

A WALL PHONE, ringing its head off. In a RESTAURANT. A


harried HOSTESS snatches it up and

HOSTESS
Hasta Fuego, please hold.

She puts the call on hold and turns back to the LINE OF
PEOPLE waiting by her check stand as we track back through
3 INT. CROWDED MANHATTAN RESTAURANT - NIGHT 3

A chic New York eatery, PACKED WITH PEOPLE. A far cry from
home alone in Suburbia. We land on

LAURA (30s). Sitting alone at the bar. Make up and a nice


dress. Waiting for a first date. She scans the crowd.
Nothing. Checks her watch. 7:10 pm. He’s late. She sighs.

Her phone VIBRATES. A message through Tinder. It’s him.

Hi.

Then another:

This is embarrassing.

Then another:

I’m lost.

She exhales. Not being stood up. Sends the crying laughing
emoji back. He texts back:

Can I call?

She shoots him a thumbs up. The phone RINGS. She ANSWERS.

LAURA
Hi, Richie?

VOICE (O.S.)
Laura, hi. So nice to phone-meet
you in this incredibly embarrassing
way.

LAURA
(laughing)
It’s fine.

VOICE (O.S.)
This is what I get for picking a
trendy place with no sign out
front.

LAURA
Why do they do that here?

VOICE (O.S.)
I don’t know, I’ve only been in the
city for a few months.

LAURA
Me too.
(looks around)
It’s a nice restaurant.

VOICE (O.S.)
Is it on Hudson?

LAURA
Yes.

VOICE (O.S.)
Am I on Hudson?
(pause)
I am not on Hudson. Shit.

Laura laughs. He’s got a nice way about him.

VOICE (O.S.) (CONT’D)


I am now walking towards Hudson.
Sorry, this is not the first
impression I wanted to make on a
college professor.

LAURA
Associate Professor, and it’s just
Film Studies, so you’re safe.

VOICE (O.S.)
Film studies, really? That’s cool.

LAURA
You say that, but try teaching a
class on 20th Century Slashers to
hungover 19-year-olds.

Slashers, huh? “What’s your
favorite scary movie?”

LAURA
(laughs)
Not that one. Besides, does anyone
have an absolute favorite movie?

VOICE (O.S.)
Some people. Why 20th Century
Slashers?

LAURA
You can examine the culture of the
moment by looking at the tropes of
the time. The masked killer, the
final girl, the rules. Don’t split
up, don’t have sex-

VOICE (O.S.)
Don’t answer the phone-

LAURA
Exactly, it’s all cliche, but out
of those cliches comes an
opportunity for outsider art. A
voice for the voiceless.

VOICE (O.S.)
I’m more of a rom-com guy.

Laura laughs. Is this date actually going well?

VOICE (O.S.) (CONT’D)


Okay, I think I’m on Hudson. What
color is the outside of the
restaurant?

LAURA
I think red?

VOICE (O.S.)
I don’t see anything red.

LAURA
I might be wrong, hang on a second.

She rises and walks to the front of the restaurant, passing


the check-stand, pushing the front door to

4 EXT. HUDSON STREET - NIGHT 4

Laura steps outside. October chilly. Cars fly past. She


squints up at the converted storefront the restaurant is in.

LAURA
Yeah, it’s definitely red.

VOICE (O.S.)
I’m not seeing anything red here.

She looks up and down the block. A few pedestrians.

LAURA
Are you sure you’re on Hudson?

VOICE (O.S.)
...crap. I’m still a block over.
Do you want to cancel? I feel like
I’ve embarrassed myself enough.

LAURA
(chuckles)
This is actually one of the more
interesting first dates I’ve ever
had.

VOICE (O.S.)
It looks like there’s an alley I
can cut through, is the restaurant
near an alley?

She looks. There is an alley next to the restaurant.

LAURA
Yes.

VOICE (O.S.)
Okay, I’m coming down the alley.

She walks to the MOUTH OF THE ALLEY. Looks down it. Dark
and foreboding. No one in it.

LAURA
I don’t see you.

VOICE (O.S.)
Really? There are some dumpsters
about halfway down.

There are.

4A EXT. ALLEY OFF HUDSON ST - NIGHT 4A

She takes a few steps into the alley.

LAURA
I see them, but I don’t see you.

VOICE (O.S.)
I don’t see you either.
(pause)
This is creepy, right?

LAURA
A little bit.

VOICE (O.S.)
(nervous laugh)
20th Century Slashers, huh?

LAURA
You sure you’re walking towards
Hudson?

VOICE (O.S.)
I’m sure. Wait, I think I see you.
Can you wave?

Laura takes a few more steps into the alley. She waves.

LAURA
Can you see me?

VOICE (O.S.)
The person I’m looking at isn’t
waving. They’re just staring at
me. This is weird.

Laura waves again.

LAURA
Are you sure?

VOICE (O.S.)
Now they’re moving towards me.

Panic in his voice. Laura begins moving further into the


alley. Maybe he’s past the dumpsters?

LAURA
Are you okay?

VOICE (O.S.)
He’s following me!

LAURA
I don’t see anyone-

VOICE (O.S.)
Oh shit! Oh shit! He’s after me!

LAURA
Where are you?

VOICE (O.S.)
He’s got a knife!

LAURA
What?!

VOICE (O.S.)
He‘s got a knife and that’s not the
worst part! The worst part is you
teach a class about slashers and
you still walked into a dark alley.

Laura STOPS IN HER TRACKS. About 20 feet into the alley.


There’s an OFF-SHOOT to her right.

LAURA
That’s not funny.

VOICE (O.S.)
No. It’s not.

And GHOSTFACE emerges from the darkness of the off-shoot.

We see him before Laura does. She turns just as he raises a


knife and STABS HER IN THE CHEST! Once, twice, three times!
Her screams emerge as gurgles. Through the voice-changer:

VOICE (CONT’D)
Now I see something red. *

She stumbles back against the bricks. He keeps stabbing,


like an overeager schoolboy. No cat and mouse, no chase.
It’s a slaughter. Her legs collapse.

He raises the knife and stabs right at camera...

But we don’t cut to the title screen.

Ghostface wipes the blood off against her cheeks. First one,
then the other. She gurgles once more... and goes still.

Then Ghostface rises and takes off his mask. He’s a college-
aged kid. Wild eyes. High on adrenaline.

This is JASON (19). He quickly removes his cloak, wraps the


knife in it. Grabs a pre-placed backpack behind the
dumpster. Stuffs everything in. Efficient. On the clock.
Videos Laura’s body with his phone.

5 EXT. HUDSON STREET - MOMENTS LATER 5

Jason exits the alley and falls into pedestrian traffic. Not
too slow, not too fast. Just another New Yorker. Many
people are wearing HALLOWEEN COSTUMES.

Jason dials his phone. It goes to voicemail.

JASON
Hey man, so... don’t be mad. But I
just did a practice run. Little
Miss You Know Who from film
studies. I know I jumped the gun,
I just got excited. I’m heading
back to the apartment now. See you
in a few.
6 EXT. NEW YORK CITY UNIVERSITY - QUAD- NIGHT 6 *

Jason walks across a college campus. Passing other students, *


including --

JASON
Hey, Tara!

It’s TARA CARPENTER. Wearing a pirate costume. Full of


life. Not a hint of trauma on her face as she shoots Jason a
million-watt smile.

Oh, fuck. He’s already infiltrated the friend group.

TARA
Hi, Jason. Are you and Greg coming
to the OKB party?

JASON
Yeah, if he ever finishes his
Spanish project. Is your sister
gonna be there?

Tara laughs at the very thought.

TARA
You wish. Sam wouldn’t be caught
dead at a Frat party.

JASON
There’s a first time for
everything.

A twinkle in his eye. Tara laughs and moves on. He watches


her go, smile still on his face. *

7 INT. JASON & GREG’S APARTMENT - VARIOUS - NIGHT 7

Jason enters his two-bedroom walk-up and shuts the door.

JASON
Honey, I’m hoooooome!
(off the silence)
Greg! Where the fuck are you?

Nothing. Jason furrows his brow. Opens the CLOSET. It is


head to toe COVERED IN PLASTIC. A mannequin in the back. He
takes off his boots, dumps the contents of his bag. Puts the
Ghostface Mask onto the mannequin. Place of honor.

Heads into the kitchen. Uses a wire brush and lava soap to
scrubs his hands. Finishes. Turns to the fridge to grab a
beer. Before he can, his phone buzzes. Incoming call.
“Greg.”

JASON (CONT’D)
(answering)
I’m sorry, okay. I was getting
blue balls, and I wanted the
practice. How pissed are you?

VOICE (O.S.)
Oh, I’m not mad, Jason.

It’s the Ghostface voice. Jason rolls his eyes.

JASON
Dude, we said we weren’t going to
use the voice on each other.

VOICE (O.S.)
We said a lot of things.

Jason frowns.

JASON
Greg?

VOICE (O.S.)
Hm?

JASON
This is Greg, right?

Long pause. Then a laugh.

VOICE (O.S.)
Who else would it be?

Jason relaxes. Enters the living room.

JASON
Where are you? I want to tell you
about it.

VOICE (O.S.)
I’m here.

Jason does a 360-degree turn. Nobody there. He sighs,


getting irritated.

JASON
Stop fucking around and come home.
We should get to that frat party.
Tara’s there.

Jason goes to a sideboard and pours a shot of Jaegermeister.

VOICE (O.S.)
I thought you were going to tell me
about it. What was it like?

JASON
Not on the phone. And seriously,
man - turn off the fuckin’ voice
modulator.

VOICE (O.S.)
I’m just trying to get the voice
right. You got to have your
practice, I get mine.

Jason does his shot, pours another.

JASON
Whatever.

VOICE (O.S.)
Just tell me what it felt like.
Then maybe I’ll come out.

Jason snorts a laugh.

JASON
Dude, I know you’re not here.

But he glances around the apartment again. Just to be safe.

JASON (CONT’D)
It was better than we ever thought
it would be. When the knife went
in, it was like she wasn’t human
anymore. Just an animal.
(MORE)

JASON (CONT’D)
Every time it went in, she was less
and less human. And then she was
just meat.

VOICE (O.S.)
But she wasn’t just meat, Jason.
She was a person. Our film
professor.

Jason drains his second shot.

JASON
Fuck her, she gave me a C minus on
my giallo paper. She shoulda been
teaching a class on the MCU at a
community college. Trust me, film
academia is better off without her.

VOICE (O.S.)
Is that why you killed her?
Because of the C minus? Who’s
next, your grade school vice
principal?

Jason stops mid-pour and sets the bottle down. Tensing.

JASON
You know who’s next. Why are you
being like this?

VOICE (O.S.)
Come on, Jason. How long have we
known each other?

Jason, about to blow past the rhetorical question, stops.

JASON
Why don’t you tell me?

Long pause.

VOICE (O.S.)
Six years. We met in Junior High.
In Atlanta.

Jason visibly relaxes. Right answer.

VOICE (O.S.) (CONT’D)


I just want you to tell me why you
think we’re doing this. In your
words.

JASON
We’re finishing Richie’s movie.
(beat)
Why are you fucking with me? Why
won’t you tell me where you are?

VOICE (O.S.)
Why do you keep asking me that? I
already told you. I’m here.

JASON
(sick of it)
Then prove it.

VOICE (O.S.)
Okay. Let’s play a game. Do you
know “Warmer Colder?”

JASON
What are you, fucking five?

VOICE (O.S.)
Come on. It’ll be fun.

Jason eyes the SECURITY CAMERAS positioned on the ceiling.

JASON
Are you using the cameras?

Beat.

VOICE (O.S.)
Yeah. The cameras. And at the
moment you’re very, very cold.

Jason moves towards Greg’s bedroom.

VOICE (O.S.) (CONT’D)


Colder.

Moves towards his own bedroom.

VOICE (O.S.) (CONT’D)


Colder.

Towards the entryway.

VOICE (O.S.) (CONT’D)


North pole.

JASON
Dude--

Do you want to find me or not,
Jason? I’m starting to think
you’re not a team player.

JASON
All right! Jesus.

Jason moves back into the living room.

VOICE (O.S.)
Getting warmer.

Back into the small kitchen.

VOICE (O.S.) (CONT’D)


Warmer.

Jason flips open the lower cabinet doors, the only


conceivable hiding place. Nothing but pots and pans.

JASON
This is fucking stupid. I’m
hanging up.

VOICE (O.S.)
But you’re getting warmer.

Jason steps out of the kitchen.

VOICE (O.S.) (CONT’D)


Colder.

Pissed off now, Jason steps back into the kitchen.

VOICE (O.S.) (CONT’D)


Warmer.

JASON’S POV - The refrigerator at the far end of the kitchen.


He steps towards it.

VOICE (O.S.) (CONT’D)


Warmer. Warmer.

Jason arrives at the fridge.

VOICE (O.S.) (CONT’D)


You’re burning up.

He reaches a tentative hand out and grips the handle.

VOICE (O.S.) (CONT’D)


You’re on fire.

He slowly opens the door...

JASON
OH, FUCK!

And finds GREG (19) with his throat slit. Bones broken, body
folded inside the fridge next to the eggs.

SHUNK. A knife goes into Jason’s back. He drops his phone.


Turns to see...

GHOSTFACE. But different than we’ve ever seen before. This


mask is aged. Worn and cracked. Graying. Over 25 years
old.

THIS CRACKED MASK WILL BE WORN BY GHOSTFACE THROUGHOUT THE


MOVIE UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.

GHOSTFACE
Do you feel like an animal, Jason?

He stabs him in the stomach, over and over.

GHOSTFACE (CONT’D)
Like meat?

Jason slumps to the floor against the open fridge. Trying to


hold his innards in with his hands. Mouth wet with blood.

JASON
But... we have to finish the
movie.

GHOSTFACE
Who gives a fuck about movies?

Jason looks up, uncomprehending, as THE KNIFE SLASHES DOWN

8 INT. THERAPIST’S HOME OFFICE - NIGHT 8

The front room of a brownstone. Low lit. Plug-in water


feature trickles. The desk calendar reads October 29.

DR. STONE (O.S.)


Family. What does that word mean
to you?

SAM (O.S.)
How do you mean?

DR. STONE
I’ve noticed that you tend to
define yourself by family. Who’s
in your life, who’s left you.
Pink Rev. (06/07/22) 14.

We pan past Halloween decor cluttering the room. Among the


trinkets, we land on a desperately cute collection of scary
movie FUNKO POPS, GHOSTFACE amongst them.

DR. STONE (O.S.) (CONT’D)


What I’d like to get to is your
purpose. Your identity.

SAM CARPENTER eyes the Funko Pops, dubious. Our hero. She
sits across from DR. STONE (50s), the best therapist bad
insurance can buy. He notices her distaste.

DR. STONE (CONT’D)


Sorry. Some patients like the
‘festive decor’.

SAM
It’s... a little dark.

He leans forward, as if confessing something.

DR. STONE
I’m kind of a “Horror Hound”. This
is my favorite time of year. You?

SAM
Not so much.

As if to punctuate her point, POLICE SIRENS whizz by outside.

DR. STONE
So how are the new meds treating *
you? *

He flips open his notebook, pen at the ready.

SAM
Okay, I think. Still not seeing *
anyone I shouldn’t be. What I’m
really worried about is Tara-

DR. STONE
What I’m really worried about is
you. You’ve been coming here for
six months now and all we’ve really
spoken about is how your sister
isn’t dealing with whatever
happened to you both a year ago.
Which you still haven’t told me.

SAM
I just-

DR. STONE
You’ve alluded to an abusive
relationship, and issues with your
father, but every time I push for
specifics, you shut down.

SAM
I’m sorry, I have some trust issues-

DR. STONE
If I’m going to help you, you have
to let me. It’s why you’re here,
right?

Sam shifts in her seat. Decides to open up, just a little.

SAM
I had a secret that I kept from
everyone, about who my father was.
And since it got out, a lot of
people think I did something
terrible last year that I didn’t
do. Because of who he was.

DR. STONE
I’m assuming he was... not a good
person?

SAM
He was not. And they think I’m
like him.

DR. STONE
What do you think?

SAM
I think they’re not completely
wrong. There’s a darkness inside
of me. I ran away from it for
years. But in the end, accepting
it saved my life.

DR. STONE
How so?
(off Sam’s reluctance)
Sam, for this to work, I’m going to
need you to give me details.

Sam takes a deep breath.

SAM
Okay. My father was Billy Loomis.
He was a famous serial killer.
They made a movie about him.
(MORE)

SAM (CONT’D)
(nods to the Funko Pop)
Last year I found out my boyfriend
was also a serial killer and only
dating me because he idolized my
father. He and his friend killed a
bunch of people, and when it got
out that I’m Billy’s daughter, this
crazy rumor started online that I
masterminded the whole thing and
framed them.

She holds up her phone which shows a #WoodsboroTruther


subreddit. Thousands of posts (and some fan art!) about Sam
being the Ghostface of our previous movie.

Dr. Stone looks at Sam with new, terrified eyes.

DR. STONE
But you... didn’t.

SAM
Of course not. He almost killed my
sister and me before I stopped him.

Dr. Stone now staring at her, open-mouthed.

DR. STONE
And... how did you stop him?

Sam takes a sip of her soda and considers, matter-of-fact.

SAM
I stabbed him twenty-two times and
slit his throat. But that’s not
why I’m here.

Dr. Stone swallows. Afraid to ask...

DR. STONE
Why are you here?

SAM
Because it felt right.

He rises, pale.

DR. STONE
I- I- okay, I think we’re done-

SAM
You said to give you details.

DR. STONE
I’m not really equipped to deal
with this kind of thing-

SAM
(earnest)
Please. I’m asking for your help.

Dr. Stone swallows.

DR. STONE
I actually have to report this to
the authorities, by law-

SAM
Report what? I didn’t say I was
going to do anything!

DR. STONE
Not explicitly, but-

SAM
Forget it. Enjoy your dolls.

Sam is out the door.


9 EXT. NEW YORK STREET - NIGHT 9

Sam walks home, passing GREG & JASON’S APARTMENT BUILDING. A


fresh crime scene. Police tape across the door. A cop
standing sentry. Cop car at the curb, cherries flashing.

Sam shudders as she passes it. Dials Tara. Gets voicemail:

TARA (V.O.)
You’ve reached Tara, why aren’t you
texting me?

BEEP!

SAM
Hey, you know you’re supposed to
pick up when I call. I’m out of
therapy early so we can cook dinner
tonight if you want. See you soon!
A10 INT. STAIRWELL - NIGHT A10 *

Fourth floor walk-up. Sam unlocks the door to her apartment *


with janitor keys. Four deadbolts. Overkill? Absolutely. *

10 INT. SAM & TARA’S APARTMENT - NIGHT 10

Sam enters. *
Pink Rev. (06/07/22) 17A.

SAM
Tara?

No response. But BANGING on the wall. Some low moaning.


Sam smiles, despite herself.

SAM (CONT’D)
Quinn?

The banging stops. A beat.

QUINN (O.S.)
Are we being too loud?

SAM
Not at all. Have you seen Tara?

We hear a low discussion and then QUINN (19, Sam and Tara’s
roommate) emerges from a bedroom, wrapped in a robe. Sweaty.

QUINN
Don’t be mad.

SAM
Why would I be mad?

QUINN
Because you get mad.

SAM
Is that Paul?

Quinn makes the “cut it out” symbol across her throat.

QUINN
Life, I have found, is all about
variety-

SAM
Where’s Tara?

QUINN
She went to the Omega Kappa Beta
party.

SAM
I begged her not to go to that!

QUINN
We have now arrived at mad.

SAM
Did she at least take her taser?

QUINN
I cannot speak to how heavily armed
Tara is at this fraternity party.

From the bedroom we hear:

PAUL 2.0 (O.S.)


Babe, are you coming back?

Sam looks at Quinn and mouths “Babe”? Quinn shrugs. Sam


sees Tara’s taser on the table grabs it, catching a glimpse
of a HANDSOME SHIRTLESS MAN (20s) in the adjacent apartment.

This is DANNY BRACKETT. Sam can’t help but stare...

QUINN
Oooh, is Cute Boy shirtless again?

PAUL 2.0 (O.S.)


Who’s Cute Boy, babe?

QUINN
(rolls her eyes)
Always you, sweetie!

Danny looks up. Sam looks away, embarrassed, caught.

QUINN (CONT’D)
You’ve been checking each other out
for months, you should at least
talk to him.

SAM
This is about all the romantic
interaction I’m ready for. I’m
gonna go get Tara.
11 EXT. FRAT HOUSE - ESTABLISHING - NIGHT 11

Thumping bass. Drunken bros. In other words, a Frat House.


12 INT. FRAT HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT 12

We track through the party. Dancing. Beer pong. Bong rips. *


A couple obnoxiously making out. *

We find MINDY MEEKS-MARTIN and her girlfriend ANIKA MAEDA *


(20) sitting on a ratty couch in the living room. *

ANIKA
It doesn’t bother you? Being at a
house party after you were almost
brutally murdered at a house party?

MINDY
I think of it like being struck by
lightning. The odds of it
happening to the same person twice
are extremely low.

MINDY
Real close.

Anika scoots closer to Mindy, smiling. Mindy looks up to see


Tara walking past, heading for the keg.

MINDY (CONT’D)
How you doing, T?

Tara’s glassy eyes broadcast her drink intake. She shoots


Mindy a thumbs-up and weaves to the keg station where FRANKIE
(21) is placing a red cup upside-down on the pump.

TARA
You’re kidding, right?

FRANKIE
Nah, last one’s kicked. We got
hard stuff in the kitchen, though.
(extends hand)
Frankie.

TARA
Tara. Lead the way.

As they walk, Frankie notes Tara’s every stumble and slurred


word with the scrutiny of a measured anthropologist.

FRANKIE
You Omega Beta Zeta?

TARA
Not yet. Might rush it.

FRANKIE
Freshman, right on. Where from?

TARA
(beat)
Michigan.
13 INT. FRAT HOUSE - TRASHED KITCHEN - CONTINUOUS 13

They arrive at the kitchen. The bar is down to the dregs.

FRANKIE
Shit, strike two.
(”remembering”)
You know what? I got a bottle of
Fireball up in my room.

Tara’s alarm bells are screaming, but...

TARA
Fuck it, let’s go.
14 INT. FRAT HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT 14

Tara and Frankie head towards the stairs, passing

ANIKA
I don’t love that...

MINDY
Go.

Anika goes after them. A PREPPY GUY flops down by Mindy.

PREPPY GUY
Hey. Nice costume.

MINDY
Thank you. I’m dressed as a
straight person.

PREPPY GUY
(not listening)
You’re cute. Wanna get out of
here?

After a beat, Mindy bursts out CACKLING. Laughing so hard


she can’t breathe. Shaking her head and mouthing “no.”
Mortified, the Preppy Guy slinks away.

ACROSS THE ROOM - Anika intercepts Tara and Frankie.

ANIKA
Hey... wanna call it a night?

TARA
I think I’m gonna hang. But you

The door opens inward and QUINN’S BLOODY BODY flies into the

The body slams into Anika, knocking her back onto the couch-

Sam lunges into the kitchen, going for the knife block --

Just past the shower, the other door of the Jack-and-Jill


bathroom flies open, revealing GHOSTFACE in Tara’s room! He
charges into the bathroom at them, knife raised!

Mindy dives forward, slams Quinn’s bathroom door, locks it--


WHAM! Ghostface slams his body into the door!

Sam shoves Quinn’s vanity in front it. It won’t hold for


long. She looks for a weapon. Nothing. Runs to the window.
No fire escape. Danny, across the way on his balcony.
Twenty feet between them.

Danny, looking around desperately. Getting an idea:

DANNY
I’ll be right back!

He disappears into his apartment!

SAM
Where are you going?!

Mindy holds the door. Anika, hurt bad. WHAM! WHAM! WHAM!

Danny reappears, holding a UTILITY LADDER. He begins to


stretch it between the sill of his window and hers...

Sam takes the edge of the ladder and places it on the sill.
It’s barely long enough. She looks down. FOUR STORIES UP.

Sam crawls across the ladder, which CREAKS under her weight.
She balks. Not sure she can do this.

DANNY
Keep your eyes on me.

Sam does. She forces herself to grab the next rung. Brings
a knee forward. She’s doing it --

Oh fuck, she looked down. She’s so high up.

DANNY (CONT’D)
Eyes on me, Sam.

hell to keep the panic from her voice.

Anika. You have to get over here

SCRRRRRRCH! Ghostface nudges the ladder closer to the edge.

SAM
Leave her alone, you fuck!

Anika realizes what’s happening. But she’s frozen in fear.

Ghostface glares directly at Sam and PICKS UP the end of the


ladder. Anika suddenly tilting forward, staring at the

Ghostface SLAMS the ladder up and down again! And again!


Anika just whimpering, trembling.

Mindy turns to Sam and Danny.

MINDY
I have to go get her.

DANNY
It can’t hold you both. You’ll

Mindy goes to move past him... but Sam is already leaning out *
as far as she can, dangling dangerously out of the window- *

Sam, arms outstretched. Anika remains frozen in place. She *

Sam stands at the edge of the building. Watching the coroner

Gale, rising, going for her iPhone. Pressing RECORD. She
sees an incoming call from Samantha Carpenter. Ignores it.

We track with Gale as she paces through her apartment.

VOICE (O.S.)
I figured after all these years
you’d want an interview.

and Amber managed to butcher Dewey.
Carved him up like a Christmas

BOOM! The glass partition EXPLODES as BROOKS’ BODY is hurled


through it onto the couch! DEAD. Revealing Ghostface! He
wipes the knife. Gale SCREAMS and bolts for the kitchen!

Running around the island, Ghostface hot on her heels, she


grabs a pot off the burner and smashes him with it! He goes
down flailing! As he comes up, Gale sprints away, out the
door to her
59 EXT. GALE’S BALCONY - NIGHT 59

A HUGE PENTHOUSE BALCONY. 80 feet long and 20 feet wide,


Gale sprints out the far door. Ghostface bursts out the door
seconds later.

Gale throws patio furniture in his way as she goes - he trips


over a chaise! Gale reaches the other door and re-enters

She spins, trying to lock the door behind her, but he’s too
close, so she races toward the bedrooms...

She slams the door and locks it- WHAM! Ghostface hits it!
Trying to break it down as --

Gale rips open her bedside drawer. Gun safe. Can she get
the gun out before the door cracks open?

Gale enters the code. Fucks up. Entering it again- WHAM!


The door splinters. She opens the safe. Grabs the gun,
racks the slide, and --

BLAM-BLAM! She puts two bullets through the door! Then


silence. Gale, breathing hard.

GALE
How’s that for nostalgia, fucker?

No response. Gale doesn’t move. Waiting. Her phone rings.


She answers, keeping her gun on the door.

VOICE (O.S.)
You missed.

GALE
Sure I did.

VOICE (O.S.)
You win, I’m in the elevator,
heading for the ground floor.

GALE
Sure you are.

BLAM-BLAM! She puts two more bullets through the door.


Listens. Still silence.

VOICE (V.O.)
Maybe you did hit me. Maybe I’m
wounded. Or maybe I’m wearing a
bulletproof vest.

GALE
That’s why I’m going to shoot you
in the fucking head.

She moves to the door and opens it... Nothing.

Silence. Gale steps out of her room, gun up. Hunting.

Glass crunches under Gale’s feet as she walks. Taking


corners, clearing rooms.

GALE
Keep talking, asshole.

VOICE (O.S.)
You never got to be the leading
lady, did you? It was always all
about poor sweet Sidney, sucking up
all the oxygen. What did that
leave you to be?

GALE
The brains and the sex appeal.

She enters the living room. Tries not to look at Brooks.

VOICE (O.S.)
Sorry about your boyfriend. All
those muscles didn’t help much.

GALE
Hang on a second, I want to try
something.

She HANGS UP, then calls him back. Behind the doors to the
entryway, a PHONE RINGS. Gale pivots and SHOOTS THROUGH THE
ENTRY DOORS! Did she get him? She stares. Inching
closer... Closer...

WHAM! Ghostface RAMS through the doors! Tackling her and


STABBING HER THROUGH THE ARM! She screams as the gun
clatters to the floor! Blood gouts!

He rips the knife out and then stabs it down into her thigh!
She howls. Pulls it upwards, tearing through the muscle!

Somehow, she throws him off and stumbles back. Barely on her
feet with the bum leg. Her hand’s not working. Severed
tendon. And SO MUCH BLOOD...

Ghostface stands across from her. Does the KNIFE WIPE.


Staring her down. Gale pale from blood loss, wheezing.

Ghostface just stares.

Ghostface grips the knife. Gale makes a fist with her good
hand. They stare at each other... and then both CHARGE.

They SLAM INTO EACH OTHER and then crash to the floor!
Kicking, punching, slashing.

A fight to the death.

Ghostface stabs Gale again. She screams in anger and bites


his arm. Drawing blood. Now he screams! She punches him! He
punches her! She gets on top. Smashes his head with a lamp!

And then he slips the knife in between her ribs. We see the
fight go out of her. He throws her to the ground. Straddles
her. Raises the knife, plunges it down...

She CATCHES HIS WRIST. Holding it with both hands. He


pushes harder. The knife, descending towards her face.
Toward her eyeball. She spits blood.

GALE (CONT’D)
Fuck... you...

But he’s got her. The tip of the blade, brushing her
eyelashes. We’re not gonna want to see this...

SAM (O.S.)
Hey!

Sam and Tara race in! Sam sees the gun and dives for it!
Ghostface rolls off Gale as Sam comes up with the weapon!
FIRING!

Bullets tear through things! Ghostface barrels through the


fire door to the EMERGENCY STAIRS, as the gun clicks dry.
Sam, about to go after him when

TARA
Sam!

She turns back, sees Gale, Oh fuck. She and Tara run to her.

The warning buzzer sounds. The doors start to close. They

Sam checks the map. Darkens.

Cold fear takes hold of the group.

Ethan and Mindy on opposite ends of a car on the next train.

Ghostfaces are peppered throughout their car as well. And


there’s very little room to move.

Mindy sizes up the Ghostfaces, one by one. Nobody in that


cracked mask. Also keeping an eye on Ethan.

embarking passengers. When there’s a break in the crowd,

The train lurches forward again.

Mindy’s phone buzzes with Chad’s text:

U on the next train?

Mindy responds:

Mindy glances at Ethan. He’s moved a little closer to her.


Looks back to her phone - the text won’t go through.

A Ghostface sidles up beside her, gripping the same pole.


Staring at her. She moves to the opposite pole...

Now she’s right next to a Ghostface slumped over on the


nearest seat, head bobbing over his knees. Passed out?
Playing possum?

Caught between two Ghostfaces. She looks at Ethan, whose


expression is unreadable.

Chad anxiously checks his phone. No response from Mindy.


The train pulls into the next station. Very few people get
out, and a whole lot more get on. All pressed together.

The Ghostface that was staring at Sam is suddenly visible


again, pushing through the mass of bodies towards Sam --

Oh fuck - coming right at her. She eyes the doors...

SAM
Guys-

The others see the charging Ghostface...

Danny steps in front of Sam-- The doors start closing and


Ghostface SHOVES people out of his way...

Then strobe on and off without pattern. Periods of darkness,


then flickering lights. Darkness, light. And the roaring
screech of the train making a turn.

MINDY’S POV - She zeroes in on the slumped-over Ghostface.


He sits up. As the lights strobe...

He slowly turns to face her. *

Then, blackness again. When the lights strobe on again --

He’s standing. BLACKNESS AGAIN -- THEN LIGHT --

Now he’s right fucking next to her.

THE KNIFE slides between Mindy’s ribs. He folds a hand over


her mouth to silence her screams--

The lights blast on as the train exits the tunnel. Ethan


sees Mindy fall to the floor, bleeding--

ETHAN

He pushes through the crowd as the train jerks to a stop. *

The doors open and Ghostface blends in with his brethren as


the passengers disembark. Ethan reaches Mindy. She’s barely *
conscious. *

ETHAN (CONT’D)

have to get off. HELP!

Passengers finally notice what’s happening and SCREAM. Ethan


picks Mindy up, carries her towards the doors...

housing the bloody shirt Billy died in.

They all LOOK UP. The balcony above them. Some scaffolding
on stage right they can climb up.

They creep down an aisle, past exhibits, towards the


scaffolding. Listening for any movement. Ghostface is out

Ghostface runs out from behind the movie screen and LEAPS OFF
the stage in front of them! Cutting off their path to the
scaffolding!

Sam staggers back against a display and drops her knife. It

Ghostface, slashing at Chad! Oh fuck! He ducks the blade


and it takes the head off the mannequin displaying Randy’s
work shirt!

CHAD
“Beheadings!”

WHAM! He’s slammed up against another display! He notices


what’s on the pedestal - Kenny’s TV camera from Scream ’96.
Chad hefts it above his head, slams it onto Ghostface’s!

CHAD (CONT’D)
Not into movies, huh motherfucker?
How ‘bout TV? Goddamn, I sounded
cool saying that!

Ghostface rises, springs back into action, but Chad holds him
off, protecting his body with the bulky camera.

CHAD (CONT’D)
Run!

The sisters duck into the narrow hallway stage left! Chad

Heading for the scaffolding again. One Ghostface emerges


from the narrow hallway by the stage. The second emerges
from the lobby behind them.

The sisters, in the middle of the main floor. Ghostfaces


advancing on them from both side. They’re trapped.

Sam and Tara look at each other. Flight turns to fight. Sam
picks up TWO BRICKS from the crumbling place. Hands one to
Tara.

SAM
Ready?

TARA
Ready.

One Ghostface for each. Tara eyes hers like a wounded


animal. The Ghostfaces close in. Knives up. This is it.

TARA (CONT’D)
Come on, motherfucker!

BLAM BLAM BLAM! Gunfire sends the killers disappearing in


opposite directions, revealing the shooter...

KIRBY. Stumbling out from behind the movie screen. Bleeding


from a gash in her temple, unsteady on her feet. Faking?

Whatever he told you, don’t believe

One of the Ghostfaces suddenly darts out of the shadows!


Knife raised, running at Bailey! Kirby shifts her aim-

KIRBY (CONT’D)
Behind you!

But Bailey doesn’t turn. Instead, he shoots Kirby twice in


the chest. Sam and Tara SCREAM as she goes down!

The first Ghostface steps beside Bailey, who lowers his gun.
The second Ghostface comes out of hiding and joins them.
Bailey, laughing, hugs them both!

BAILEY
Great work, both of you.

And the three of them turn to face a stunned Sam and Tara.

TARA

TARA
You killed your own mother?

ETHAN
What kind of mother doesn’t want to
avenge her dead son? Abandoning
your kid is just plain evil!

QUINN
(to Sam)
Bet you wish you could kill
yours...

Sam’s eyes narrow, dangerous.

QUINN (CONT’D)
There she is. There’s the fucking
killer.

TARA
Great job with the parenting...

QUINN

Bailey shrugs, introspective.

BAILEY
Am I a perfect father? No. Did I
indulge Richard’s fascination with
these silly movies a little too
much? Maybe. They’re just too
dark for me. And they don’t make
sense - they’re murder mysteries
where the hero never ends up
solving the mystery! The killers
just announce themselves! What
kind of ending is that? But my son
loved them.
(smiles)
He even made a few of his own.

He nods to the movie screen. These are Richie’s fan films.

BAILEY (CONT’D)
And I loved my son. So I helped
him build this collection.

He gestures to the museum around them.

SAM
All of this is Richie’s?

BAILEY
Oh yes. He was a very passionate
fan. And he inspired others - we
had to kill those two wannabes from
your film class because we had to
be the ones to kill you. For
Richie. Once they were dead, I put
the theater in their name so we
could lead you back here. That’s
why it wasn’t in the records Kirby
had. Good Ol’ Detective Bailey
would have stumbled upon it, but it
turned out I didn’t have to. Gotta
say, Gale really is a damn good
journalist.
(nods to an exhibit)
We brought his collection here and
built this tribute to my son.
Because this is where you have to
die - surrounded by the things he

SAM
And then what? When you’re done

QUINN

Bailey raises his gun. This is it. Sam gets Tara’s


attention with a look. Softly:

SAM
He was pathetic, you know.

Bailey blinks. Direct hit. Tara understands. Sam’s


provoking them, drawing them in. Her grip on her brick
tightens.

BAILEY
That’s not true-

SAM
He was a man-baby who made his
girlfriend do almost all the
killing-

BAILEY
He was a strong virile young man!

Sam smiles, twinkle in her eye.

SAM
He was a weak little bitch who
cried before I cut his fucking
throat.

Quinn lunges at Sam, screaming bloody murder- only to be


CLOCKED in the face by Tara’s brick! Teeth fly as Quinn
collapses to the floor!

BLAM BLAM BLAM! Kirby’s alive! One of her shots nails


Bailey in the chest! He goes down! But Ethan’s on Kirby in
an instant. He knocks the gun away and raises his knife--

ETHAN
Recognize this?

Kirby’s eyes go wide. It’s Charlie’s knife.

KIRBY
Fuck you-

He stabs her in the stomach, over and over!

SAM
No!

Sam barrels into Ethan, who tumbles off Kirby and disappears
through the door to the lobby!

Sam looks down at the bloody Kirby- *

SAM (CONT’D)
Sorry, but I need this.

And pulls the knife out of Kirby. She howls in pain, but-

KIRBY
Fuck ‘em up.

Ethan rises and comes at Sam. *

ETHAN *
What’re you gonna do, bitch-? *

Before he can even finish his sentence, STAB-STAB-STAB- Sam *


is stabbing him in the upper chest over and over. Ethan *
shrieks, shocked! He keels over. *

TARA (O.S.) *
Sam! Come on! *

Sam turns to see Tara, halfway up the scaffolding. She *


pauses to pick up Kirby’s gun where it fell. Fires shots at *
Bailey and runs for the scaffolding, stage right...
84D INT. ABANDONED MOVIE THEATER - BALCONY 84D

Sam and Tara rush across the balcony towards an EXIT DOOR
just ahead when --

A bullet fired by Bailey grazes Tara’s arm-- She loses her *


balance and falls off the edge of the balcony!

SAM
TARA!

Sam drops Kirby’s gun and grabs Tara’s hand with both of hers
just before she plummets to the ground! Holding on tight. *

Bailey smiles. It’s over. He holsters his gun and heads for *
the stairs to the balcony. *

TARA DANGLES a story above the theater floor. Below her, an *


injured but very much alive Ethan’s right there, just waiting *
for her to fall. He brandishes his knife. If Tara survives
the fall, she won’t survive him.

ETHAN
Always wanted to stick something in
you, Tara! Chad was right, I’m
feeling real confident now!

Sam tries to pull Tara up with her wounded arm. But she *
can’t get the leverage! The blood, flowing down her arm, *
making the grip slippery... *

Quinn emerges from the stairs on the other side of the


balcony. Twirls her knife as she swaggers towards Sam. *
Smiles, showing the bloody gaps in her teeth. Doesn’t see *
Kirby’s gun near Sam’s feet. *

Sam, trying and failing to haul Tara up. She can either keep *
holding on and die by Quinn’s hand, or drop Tara and save
herself. Tara looks up at her.

TARA
Sam. You gotta let me go.

SAM
(tears in her eyes)
No!

Quinn’s almost to Sam. Below, Ethan’s practically *


drooling...

TARA
Trust me. Let me go.

Tara nods to the knife Sam pulled out of Kirby in Sam’s


waistband. Sam gets it. She hands Tara the knife, lets her
fall and rolls for the gun...

TARA DROPS! Ethan holds his knife straight up, hers is out
too. She falls onto his blade stomach first-

ETHAN
GOTCHA!

But Tara drives her own knife through his open mouth and down
his throat. Ethan falls to his knees and Tara twists the
knife in his throat.

TARA
Now... die a fucking virgin.

Simultaneously - Sam gets the gun and raises it! Quinn


freezes, just a few feet away. Sam smiles at her, mean.

SAM
Looks like you’re down another
brother.

Quinn howls and charges anyway and BLAM! Sam fires and hits
Quinn, whose head snaps back in a spray of blood!

SAM (CONT’D)
(to herself)
Always gotta shoot ‘em in the
head...

Bailey has just arrived at the top of the stairs and seen
both of his remaining children die.

BAILEY
NO!

Sam aims at Bailey and pulls the trigger, but her gun’s empty *
too. They face each other. Bailey pulls his gun -- *

Before he can fire, Sam runs at him and spears him in the *
midsection! Momentum carries them OVER THE BALCONY’S EDGE
AND THEY PLUMMET TO THE MAIN FLOOR.

BAILEY’S POV - Blinks awake. Broken glass from a display all


around him. He looks around. No sign of Sam.

Pulls himself up, coughing. Goes for his gun. Gone. But he
retrieves a smaller pistol from an ankle holster --

And that’s when his phone rings. He STOPS. Silence, save


for the ringing. He answers. Through the phone:

SAM (O.S.)
I’ve got one question for you.

He climbs up to the stage, desperately trying to find her...


86A INT. ABANDONED MOVIE THEATER - STAGE 86A

Bailey walks through the torn movie screen.

BAILEY
Oh yeah, what’s that?

SAM (O.S.)
What’s your favorite scary movie?

Bailey hears a noise - whips around and sees the silhouettes


of the GHOSTFACE COSTUMES! On instinct, he shoots two
maskless mannequins in the head! Then notices...

Billy’s cloak is gone. He checks his pocket, Billy’s mask is


gone too.

BAILEY
You put on your true face, huh?
Your birthright. Poetic that
you’re going to die in it-

A CREAK. Bailey whips around, fires again! Shatters more


display cases. But there’s no sign of Sam.

BAILEY (CONT’D)
You know the truth now. Murder’s
in your blood.

The movie plays large and in reverse on the screen behind


him. CLINK! A sound to his left. He spins again- BLAM BLAM
BLAM! Sam’s toying with him. He reloads, growing angrier:

BAILEY (CONT’D)
Stop fucking around and show
yourself!

BAILEY (CONT’D)
I’m a fucking police officer! What
are you gonna do, huh? Who do you
think they’re gonna believe?

SAM (O.S.)
Probably the one that’s still
alive.

Bailey roars and throws the phone away. Behind him, he


doesn’t see...

The silhouette of GHOSTFACE on the other side of the screen.

Right behind him. Sam steps through the screen, wearing the
Billy mask and cloak. Bailey turns at the last second --

Sam stabs him in the arms, the neck, everywhere his vest
doesn’t cover! Like she’s taken her rightful place. Her
father’s mantle.

Bailey’s overwhelmed by her onslaught. The gun falls from


his hand. He drops to his knees, trying to cover himself.
Ghostface/Sam towers over him. A force of nature.

He cowers before her. Beaten. Tara limps onto the stage, *


sees what’s about to go down. Her sister as Ghostface.

But then she removes the mask. Our Sam once more.

SAM (CONT’D)
My father was a murderer. But I’m
not. No matter what you say. I’m
better than that.

She lowers the knife. Showing mercy. Tara, relieved. Bailey


weeps. Spared.

BAILEY
Thank you... Oh thank you...

Sam looks down at him.

SAM
But you did fuck with my family,
so...

She rams the knife into his left eye socket up to the hilt!
Right into the brain. Body seizing. She rips the knife out *
as he collapses. His legs do a dance as his brain DIES. *
Finally he lies still.

Sam stares down at him. Cold. Tara, disturbed. Sam sees


her. They walk through the screen and come down from the *
stage.
86B INT. ABANDONED MOVIE THEATER - MAIN FLOOR - CONTINUOUS 86B

Sam approaches her sister.

TARA
Thank you for letting go.

SAM
I knew you could take care of
yourself.
(looks at her)
I want to be in your life, but only
as much as you want me to be-

TARA
I want you to be. And I promise,
I’m going to get so much fucking
therapy after this. We’ll both
deal with this. Together.

Sam laughs. Squeezes her hand. Tara looks at her.

The tears start to come. For Chad. For everything-

ETHAN (O.S.)
AAAAHHHHHHH!!

Ethan leaps from the darkness, gurgling through his horrible


mouth and neck wounds, gun in his hand--

He’s too close to miss-- the sisters don’t even have time to
duck--

KIRBY (O.S.)
Heads up!

And that’s when Kirby shoves the TV that killed Stu Macher
from its shelf onto Ethan’s head, smashing it to pieces! An
absolutely brutal and definitive kill!

Sam and Tara gape at Kirby, who smiles.

KIRBY (CONT’D)
Saw that in a scary movie once.

Sam and Tara smile up at her, grateful.


87 INT. ABANDONED MOVIE THEATER - STAGE - MINUTES LATER 87 *

Sam, Tara and Kirby sit on the stage. We hear sirens, *


growing closer, then stopping. The fan film playing on the *
back of the screen suddenly shuts off and the screen raises. *

After a moment, POLICE and EMTs spill into the theater, led
by DANNY. He rushes to Sam and the others as the cops fan
out to clear the building.

DANNY
Are you okay?

SAM
You didn’t leave us.

She says it almost in disbelief.

DANNY
Just went for reinforcements. And
I called Mount Sinai, Mindy and
Gale are going to be okay.

TARA
Not bad, Cute Boy, not bad at all.

Danny smiles.
88 EXT. ABANDONED MOVIE THEATER - MORNING 88

Police vehicles and ambulances. Kirby in a gurney, wheeled


out as Sam and Tara walk next to her.

KIRBY
What do you think you’ll do now?

SAM
Like Tara said, make a plan...
start living again. Start dealing
with the future.

TARA
And I’m gonna start dealing with
the past.

Kirby nods. Looks at both of them.

KIRBY
If you ever need me, call. We’re *
all part of the same fucked up *
family now. And legacy doesn’t *
always have to be a bad thing.
Okay?

This lands with Sam. Tears in her eyes. Softly:

SAM
Okay.

The three women embrace. Survivors. Found family. On Tara.


The tears come again. Softly:

TARA
I only got to kiss him once...

Kirby’s face falls. Remembering all they’ve lost. Sam holds


her sister as she’s wracked with sobs.

PARAMDEIC (O.S.)
Hey, we got one more in here!

Sam and Tara turn to see another gurney being wheeled out.
CHAD. Somehow, someway, he’s alive. Tara shrieks as the
sisters run to him!

SAM
Are you kidding me? How are you
alive?!

Chad can’t speak with the oxygen mask on. Holds up FOUR
FINGERS.

TARA
Core Four!

Tara covers him with kisses - a second, a third... He groans


in pain as the paramedics have to keep her off him.

MINDY (O.S.)
Oh my God, is he okay?

Everyone turns to see a patched-up Mindy bursting from the


back of a police car.

MINDY (CONT’D)
I know who the killer is! It’s
Ethan and Bailey!

She takes in the scene. Clearly the aftermath.

MINDY (CONT’D)
You got them, didn’t you? Fuck,
did I miss the monologue again?

As Chad and Kirby are hustled to the ambulance, Mindy and *


Tara follow. *

Sam stays where she is. She takes a deep breath. Exhales.

She pulls something from her pocket. BILLY’S OLD MASK.


Looks at it...

TARA (O.S.)
Sam?

Sam looks up. Tara stands by the ambulance door, the sun
behind her. Smiling at her. Mindy, Chad and Kirby as well.
Home. Family.

TARA (CONT’D)
Are you coming?

Sam looks at her sister. Then at Danny, who’s emerging from


the theater. Then back down to Billy’s Ghostface mask. A
beat...

And then she crumples the old mask up and tosses it into the
wet gutter. Tara and Danny both smile.

Sam joins Danny and follows her sister into the light.
