My Convoy Script
My Convoy Script
CROATIA
1996
We see a group of people sitting in the back of this lorry with bags
and boxes beside them, these are the few members of the CONVOY OF
HOPE. SARAH our protagonist glares her eyes up at the wall of the
lorry pondering while MATTHEW, JOSE and WILLIAM sit in silence.
SARAH
I’ve never really got to ask this, but.
What convinced all of you to join the CONVOY?
The group slowly glance at SARAH, but MATTHEW keeps his head low
avoiding eye contact.
JOSE
I have always wanted to help people out.
I don’t know what to do next in life exactly
so, once I heard about this, I took the opportunity...
MATTHEW slowly looks up to the group as the lorry shakes from rough
terrain.
WILLIAM
(Friendlily responds)
You have a whole life ahead of you lad.
I’m a hundred percent sure you’ll find your place.
I haven’t truly found out what to do with myself either.
WILLIAM
Well, considering we’re all here now
we probably have the same goal in mind.
But now I'm curious, what brought
you on the CONVOY SARAH?
SARAH reaches into her bag beside her and smiles, she takes out a
polaroid camera and presents it out to the group.
SARAH
(Excitedly shows group)
I am a photographer!
I plan to document pictures...

Before the group were able to comment on SARAH and her camera the
lorry pulls to a stop and the group turn their attention to the
sights of a ruined town. SARAH urgently packs away her camera and
stands up with the rest of the group while MATTHEW hands over the
boxes while each of them get out of the lorry.
MATTHEW
(Unsure)
It seems we’ve arrived at DVOR?
We should get going.
JOSE
Are you doing okay MATTHEW?
You’ve been awfully quiet since
we got going here.
MATTHEW turns to JOSE confused from the sudden kindness and hands
over a box of supplies.
JOSE
(Concerned)
Well, are you?
MATTHEW
(Stutters slightly, but becomes lightly bitter)
Y-Yeah, I am alright I am just
a little tired that’s all.
SARAH turns to JOSE and MATTHEW and notices they are falling behind
the trail. WILLIAM keeps following the LORRY DRIVER.
SARAH
Catch up you two, we got these
to deliver. Wouldn’t want you lot
to fall behind now.
Both JOSE and MATTHEW look at each other in confusion but oblige.
SARAH
(Troubled)
Goodness, the state of this
town is unnerving.
The group deliver most of the supplies to a nurse who stood outside
of a medical centre, she greets the group as well as talk with the
translator to make communication easier. It was then the group heard
a male shriek outside of the building.
MATTHEW
(startled)
What the fuck was that?

SARAH
(Anxious)
I have no idea but I am going
to check it out.
SARAH bursts through the doors and walks outside with the rest of
the group following her desperately trying to convince her to stay
inside.
WILLIAM
(Agitated)
SARAH, no! What about the ROTARY?
The RULES?! You can’t walk out of sight
alone?
SARAH
(Annoyed)
What if it’s a Croatian in
need of help huh? If I hear a cry for help
I am going to answer that cry of help.
JOSE
(Concerned)
SARAH, I get you’re concerned. But
can’t you let the Croatian army handle this?
SARAH
(Annoyed)
At least can we see what’s
going on over there?
WILLIAM
(defeated)
Fine, but not for long...
The group venture behind the medical centre to see a BOSNIAN MAN in
the distance shivering and standing still crying uncontrollably. The
group look at each other confused and unnerved, the BOSNIAN MAN
spots them.
SUBTITLES:
BOSNIAN MAN
Molim te! Pomozi mi! (Please! Help me!)
Molim te! Pomozi mi! (Please! Help me!)
They didn’t understand what the man was saying but understood what
was going on as they came closer, he points and gestures his hand
for them to understand that he has stepped on a landmine and that he
cannot get off otherwise he would explode. SARAH gazes stiff in
horror while JOSE, WILLIAM and MATTHEW try to move her out of the
4
way to a safe distance. They all start yelling at each other while
SARAH blanks out.
JOSE
(Panicking)
What are we going to do?
Do we call someone?
WILLIAM
(Uncertain)
We cannot do anything, he has
already activated it. Even if the
soldiers did know how to disable those
things I cannot tell if that man
is BOSNIAN or CROATIAN.
JOSE
(Livid)
Why does that Matter to you?
He is human like all of us!
MATTHEW
Jesus Christ, JOSE!
Calm down!
MATTHEW
(Frustrated)
SARAH, I don’t usually like getting
my hands dirty but come on.
Don’t just stand there.
We need to get help before
those two keep fighting
come on.
SUBTITLES:
BOSNIAN MAN
Molim te...
(Please...)
The BOSNIAN MAN starts to yell louder, and his face gets more wet
from tears. Soldiers rush over from all the noise and pause to
process what was going on and notice the small CONVOY group.
Suddenly the BOSNIAN MAN trips, and the landmine goes off tearing
both of his legs as well as ending with a blood curdling scream,
dust particles raise from the ground clouding the gruesome death.
SARAH snaps out of it and starts to tear up.

SILENCE
The TRANSLATOR notices the group after being told and drags them
away quickly with help from the LORRY DRIVER to spare their eyes
from the man's corpse. They place them back inside the medical
centre and told them sternly to sit down and stay. The group sit in
silence staring at the floor.
WILLIAM
(Quietly chuckles)
Bad dream, its abought time
I'd at least tell someone...
...Did I look emotionless towards
the incident back there?
SARAH
(Whispers)
We promised not to talk about
what happened but, yes?
WILLIAM rubs his eyes and sighs getting ready to tell her the truth.
WILLIAM
I used to fight in a war, SARAH.
My nightmare was based on it.
I used to fight as a soldier
against IRAQ, I thought the CONVOY
would have been a lighter
experience but... Yeah. I'm sorry
if I came off as insensitive.
I am just so use to the sight
that I don’t really think about how
others feel.
SARAH sits quietly for a while taking in what he just said, but then
glances at JOSE which she notices is awake during all this. She
turns to WILLAIM.

SARAH
If anything, I think you
should apologise to JOSE,
not to me. But I appreciate it.
JOSE lightly tears up but keeps quiet, WILLAIM nods in shame feeling
awful but doesn’t notice that JOSE is awake. He lies back in his bed
and sighs once more.
WILLIAM
I’ll say sorry tomorrow, the sport
needs his rest. I think you should too.
Goodnight, SARAH.
SARAH
Goodnight...
