Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand (John 6 :1-14)

Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand

6 Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the Sea of Tiberias), 2 and a great crowd
of people followed him because they saw the signs he had performed by healing the sick. 3 Then Jesus went up on a
mountainside and sat down with his disciples. 4 The Jewish Passover Festival was near.5 When Jesus looked up and saw a
great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” 6 He asked this only
to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.7 Philip answered him, “It would take more than half a
year’s wages[a] to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!”8 Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s
brother, spoke up, 9 “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so
many?”10 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five
thousand men were there). 11 Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as
they wanted. He did the same with the fish.12 When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the
pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” 13 So theygathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the
five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.14 After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say,
“Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.” 15 Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him
king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself.

Genesis 3:18-20
18 Both thorns and thistles it shall [a]bring forth for you,And you shall eat the herb of the field.

16 On the first day there shall be a holy convocation, and on the seventh day there shall be a holy convocation for you.
No manner of work shall be done on them; but that which everyone must eat—that only may be prepared by
you. 17 So you shall observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread, for on this same day I will have brought
your [a]armies out of the land of Egypt. Therefore you shall observe this day throughout your generations as an
everlasting ordinance. 18 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, you shall eat unleavened
bread, until the twenty-first day of the month at evening.

Exodus 16 – 11:16
Bread from Heaven
11 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 12 “I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel. Speak to them,
saying, ‘At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread. And you shall know that
I am the Lord your God.’ ”13 So it was that quail came up at evening and covered the camp, and in the morning the
dew lay all around the camp. 14 And when the layer of dew lifted, there, on the surface of the wilderness, was a small
round substance, as fine as frost on the ground. 15 So when the children of Israel saw it, they said to one another,
“What is it?” For they did not know what it was.And Moses said to them, “This is the bread which the Lord has given
you to eat. 16 This is the thing which the Lord has commanded: ‘Let every man gather it according to each one’s
need, one omer for each person, according to the number of persons; let every man take for those who are in his tent.’

Numbers 21:4-6
The Bronze Serpent
4 Then they journeyed from Mount Hor by the Way of the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom; and the soul of the
people became very [a]discouraged on the way. 5 And the people spoke against God and against Moses: “Why have
you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and our soul [b]loathes this
worthless bread.” 6 So the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and many of the people
of Israel died.

Deuteronomy 8:3

Death of the Man of God
13 Then he said to his sons, “Saddle the donkey for me.” So they saddled the donkey for him; and he rode on
it, 14 and went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak. Then he said to him, “Are you the man of
God who came from Judah?”And he said, “I am.”15 Then he said to him, “Come home with me and eat bread.”
16 And he said, “I cannot return with you nor go in with you; neither can I eat bread nor drink water with you in this
place. 17 For [e]I have been told by the word of the Lord, ‘You shall not eat bread nor drink water there, nor return by
going the way you came.’ ”18 He said to him, “I too am a prophet as you are, and an angel spoke to me by the word of
the Lord, saying, ‘Bring him back with you to your house, that he may eat bread and drink water.’ ” (He was lying to
him.)19 So he went back with him, and ate bread in his house, and drank water.20 Now it happened, as they sat at the
table, that the word of the Lord came to the prophet who had brought him back; 21 and he cried out to the man of God
who came from Judah, saying, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Because you have disobeyed the word of the Lord, and have not
kept the commandment which the Lord your God commanded you, 22 but you came back, ate bread, and drank water
in the place of which the Lord said to you, “Eat no bread and drink no water,” your corpse shall not come to the tomb
of your fathers.’ ”

43 But his servant said, “What? Shall I set this before one hundred men?”He said again, “Give it to the people, that
they may eat; for thus says the Lord: ‘They shall eat and have some left over.’ ” 44 So he set it before them; and they
ate and had some left over, according to the word of the Lord.

Sadducees.” 12 Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the [b]doctrine
of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

throw it to the little dogs.”28 And she answered and said to Him, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs under the table

said to him, “What you do, do quickly.” 28 But no one at the table knew for what reason He said this to him. 29 For
some thought, because Judas had the money box, that Jesus had said to him, “Buy those things we need for the feast,”
or that he should give something to the poor.30 Having received the piece of bread, he then went out immediately.
And it was night.
