Data Scientist

Fully Remote

We are BVGroup, a leading independent sports betting and online gaming brand with customers spanning 150+
countries. As a data-driven company with software at our core, we're constantly innovating in the betting
industry.

To support our growth, we're seeking a Data Scientist to join our team in Gibraltar and help shape the future of
analytics and reporting for our fantastic brand.

As a Data Scientist within BVGroup, you will be responsible for developing and implementing predictive models,
algorithms, and statistical analyses to support our business decisions. You will work closely with our Analytics
team to identify opportunities for growth and optimization, using data to inform our strategies and drive our
success.

In this role, you will also have the opportunity to support the Data Science function within our team as a whole,
sharing your expertise and collaborating with other members to make our data-driven approach even stronger.
You will also have the chance to work with cutting-edge technologies and tools.

Where you fit in.

As an experienced Data Scientist, you will understand the importance of clear and insightful reporting when it
comes to measuring impact.

Our team here at BVGroup have designed and developed processes that extract data from various internal
sources. We need you to help transform this data into meaningful data elements that are relevant to our business,
combine them, and load them into various types of database schemas, to assist our teams in assessing
performance, and making informed decisions based on this data.

To further enhance our capabilities, we work collaboratively within our Data Science team to build data models.
This allows us to not only report on the current state of our brands in the marketplace, but also predict future
trends and make proactive changes to improve performance.

You will also be working with stakeholders and heads of departments to ensure the right questions are being
asked and the answers given are timely, accurate, appropriate, and insightful, and so excellent communication
and interpersonal skills will be key.

Who you are.

• We are looking for you to combine strong technical skills with the experience of a practitioner operating
in a business environment.
• You will also need hands-on experience in Python, and knowledge of various machine learning
techniques such as clustering, decision tree learning, and artificial neural networks, along with their real-
world advantages and drawbacks.
• Additionally, you will need to have knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts such as
regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests, and proper usage, along with experience with
applications, and a passion for using them to solve complex problems.
• You will be well supported by your colleagues, but there will be an expectation that you can work both
in the team and independently depending on the nature and scope of project work. You will need to be
pragmatic, delivery-focussed, able to learn quickly, and assertive when it comes to giving value to the
business through Data Science.

Hands on experience you will need to bring.

• Advanced Python or R for data manipulation and machine learning.
• Knowledge of different ML techniques, such as supervised regression and classification models (Deep
NN, XGBoost, GLM), unsupervised learning methods (clustering, principal components) and
reinforcement learning (actor-critical, temporal difference).
• Understanding of model selection techniques and model diagnostics.
• Experience querying database engines using SQL, and ideally key value/JSON databases too (e.g.,
DynamoGB or Firestore).
• Working knowledge of data visualization tools
• Experience of requirements gathering, project planning and estimating effort to complete a project.
• Good interpersonal skills and attitude.

Whilst the above is just a snapshot of what we use on a day-to-day basis, it would be nice if you also had
any of the following:
• Sports Betting or Online Casino knowledge
• Experience working with Google Cloud Platform and with DevOps tools such as Docker, Kubernetes,
Airflow and CI/CD.
• Educational qualifications in a Scientific or quantitative field, or significant work experience directly in
data science.
