Dropping dead

Billy Jack and his friends were playing poker one night when Tom lost $700 on a
single hand , clutched his chest, and dropped dead at the table.

Everyone looked around and said, ’Someone’s got to tell his wife. Who will it be?’

Billy Jack volunteered. He said he knew how to tell her gently . He went over
to their house and knocked on the door.

Tom’s wife answered and Billy Jack told her ’Your husband just lost $700 and is afraid to
come home.’

’Tell him to drop dead!’ she replied

'OK. I’ll go tell him', said Billy Jack.

Classical Music vs. Pop Music

Billy Strayhorn, a classical composer, said, “All music is beautiful”.

However, all music is not the same. Two very distinct forms of music
are classical and pop. Classical music and pop music are both a large
part of our culture, but have different roles. Classical music tends to
be more relaxing and compositions range from twenty seconds to two
hours long, whereas pop music is more upbeat but brief - ranging from
two to five minutes long. When you listen to classical music, you will
generally hear instruments such as the piano, the cello and the violin. A
major difference in pop music is that, there is usually someone singing.
Lyrics are a large part of popular music and are often accompanied by
instruments such as a guitar or the drums. Some may argue that pop
artists Elvis and The Beatles made just as great an impact on pop music
as Mozart and Beethoven did in the world of classical music.

The Rolling Stones

Did you know that The Rolling Stones started out as a Blues band? I was
shocked when I found out. They are best known for their Rock and Roll and have
already released 50 albums. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2012. In July
of 1962, they debuted at the Marquee Club on London’s Oxford Street. They chose
their name from a song they'd heard by an artist named “Muddy Waters.” They
were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989. You may have heard
their song “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”, which was a top hit in the mid 1960’s.

Cars vs. Public Transportation

The convenience of being able to go anywhere at any time in your own

car is great, but it can be costly. Not only do you need to buy the car but
then you have to pay for gas, oil changes, tune-ups, and insurance. This
can add up to be quite a lot of money every month. If you live in the city,
a great solution is public transportation. Public transportation often has
a one-time cost to ride wherever you need to go, or you can purchase a
monthly pass and travel as many times as you like, wherever you like. Public
transportation offers the convenience of doing what you like to do, such
as reading or playing video games, while traveling. Sadly, if you live in the
country, public transportation is not always available or reliable, so a car is
probably a better choice for you.

Thai food is very different from what you may have tasted before. The
main flavors in Thai food are salty, spicy, sour, and sweet. It is important to try
these different flavorings to get a good feel for what Thai food is like. Generally,
Thais order the same number of dishes as there are people in the group.
However, the dishes are shared between all members of the group. This ensures
that all members get a taste of all the flavors. Usually, there will be a soup,
several different meats, vegetable stir-fry, noodles, and a dessert.

A Fatal Mistake
Billy Jack and his wife were going on vacation, but his wife had a doctor’s
appointment she couldn’t miss. So Billy departed first and
his wife planned to meet him the next day.
When Billy Jack arrived at the hotel, he decided to send his wife a quick e-mail.
Unfortunately, he mistyped the address and his message was sent instead to an
elderly preacher’s wife whose husband had passed away the day before.
When the grieving widow checked her e-mail, she took one look at
the monitor, cried out and fell to the floor.
Her family rushed into the room and saw this note on the screen:
Sweetheart,
Just got checked in. Everything prepared for your arrival tomorrow.
P.S. Sure is hot down here.

Healthy Food vs. Junk Food

People say you are what you eat, so you don’t want to eat junk food all
the time or you will become junk! Eating too much junk food can cause you
to gain weight and become lethargic, depressed, and have less energy,
whereas healthy food gives you lots of energy, and makes you happy and
healthy. It is hard to only eat fruits, vegetables, grains, and meats, and
cut out all junk food, like candy, fast food, and soda. Having junk food
in moderation, such as 10% of your diet, is not a terrible thing. You just
shouldn't eat it all the time.

Active Life vs. Sedentary Life

Some people may think the best way to live is to have an active life, playing
sports and exercising, but there are some benefits to a sedentary life of
relaxing, reading and playing chess. Of course, it is good to be active because
you increase cardiovascular health and muscle development. However, a
sedentary life can often help with increasing your brain capacity. In the
professional world, being a secretary or a telephone operator is a more
sedentary career, whereas a garbage collector or bricklayer would be a
more active career, but they are both very important. There needs to be a
balance in all areas of your life, including being active and sedentary.

Cutting expenses

Billy Jack’s wife decided to cut down on household expenses wherever

possible. She reused her grocery bags as trash bags, made sure
to turn off the lights when she left a room, and always turned off

the water when she was washing the dishes. So one day, instead of having her dress
dry-cleaned when she spilled juice on it, she washed it
by hand. Proud of her savings, she boasted to her husband, ’Just think,
Billy Jack, we are five dollars richer because I washed this dress by hand.’

“Great!,” Billy Jack quickly replied “Congratulations!” Pointing

to the orange stain on the front of the dress Billy said, ’Um, I think you missed a spot.’

Home Office vs. Working in a Office

Wouldn't it be nice to work from home? Some might think so, but is it really
as great as you initially assume? If you worked from home you would need to
buy all the things for your office like a desk, a computer, office supplies, and so
on, but if you work in an office that is all provided for you. However, working
from home you wouldn't need to buy a car or have nice business clothing;
you could wear whatever you like. It would get lonely though working at
home all alone without the social interaction of co-workers throughout the
day. Although co-workers could become a distraction, your family and your
neighbors could be just as much of a distraction at home. So maybe working
from home is not as glamorous as originally thought.

Safari in Africa
There are so many decisions to make when you are thinking about going
on an African safari. The time of year you decide to go will make a difference
to what types and how many animals you will see. Other things to consider are
the temperature, the weather, and the mosquito population. During the hotter
parts of the year, you will see more animals, but it is hotter and crocodiles are
more dangerous. During other parts of the year, it rains a lot. It is, therefore,
good to do some research and make an informed decision about the type of
safari to take. Nevertheless, going on a safari in Africa will be a marvelous
experience at any time of the year.

Online Shopping vs. Shopping Mall

It is always nice to get a new outfit or the latest bestseller, but would you
rather go to the store and pick it out, or order it online? Online shopping
is nice if you are a busy person because then you are not restricted to
the business hours of the mall, which are usually 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Through
the Internet, you can shop whenever you would like to. You can also buy
anything online and are not limited to what stores are in the mall. If there
are only clothing stores in the mall and you need some furniture, then you
can’t purchase it. Online though, you would be able to. It is nice, however,
to see the item you are buying before you buy it. Shipping can certainly
cost a lot sometimes; however, depending on how far the mall is, gas can
be very expensive as well. At the end of the day, when you have your new
item, it doesn’t really matter where it came from, as long as you enjoy it.

Money

Billy Jack’s grandfather worked all of his life and had saved all of his money.
He loved money more than anything, and just before he died he said
to his grandson, Billy Jack, “Now listen, when I die, I want you to take all my money and
place it in the casket with me. I want to take my
money to the afterlife . Billy Jack promised to obey.

Well, one day Billy's grandfather died. When the funeral was over, Billy
Jack said, “Wait just a minute!“ He came over with a box and placed it in the casket.

Billy’s friend said, “I hope you are not crazy enough to put all that
money in the casket.“

Billy said, “I promised him that I would do this for him. So I got

all the money together, put it into my account, and wrote him a check!“

Individual Sports vs. Team Sports

Playing sports is beneficial to your health as it helps you to stay active and
fit. However, playing sports doesn’t mean you have to play on a team; there
are many individual sports as well. Both team and individual sports enable
you to learn different skills. On a team, you learn to be a leader and to rely
on others to help you out. Whereas in an individual sport, you learn self-
confidence and are able to really develop your strength and skills. When you
win or lose on a team, you depend on others’ skills, not just your own, which
can sometimes be frustrating if you are losing because someone isn’t pulling
their weight. In an individual sport though, you have no one to blame but
yourself. The performance is totally dependent on your skills. The time it
takes to be good at any sport is great, however when you are working with
a team, you not only need time to practice your individual skills but also
time to work together with your team. This can be difficult if everyone has
different schedules. With an individual sport, your schedule is the only one
you have to worry about and you can focus all your time on just you.

But be careful about using slang because it is an aspect of the language that involves
values too, so you’d better watch the type of language you use in certain situations.

Despite the practical conclusions one can make, the paradigms that have been observed,
such as men’s tendency to be more aggressive and women’s more contemplative nature,
fall more into social patterns of response than actual gender-based wired brains.

The famous saying “seize the day” [...] actually means observing, analyzing, focusing on

E-books vs. Paper Books

Reading books is great for your brain’s health and a wonderful pastime. But
when you are deciding what book to read, you need to also decide what
format to read it in. With the growth in technology, e-books have become
a very popular alternative to an old-fashioned paper book. Unfortunately,
in order to read an e-book, you need to have a laptop, an iPad or other
type of device with a screen to read from, as well as a battery source to run
the device. This can be costly compared to a paper book that only requires
a light source of some kind, whether it be a lamp or the sun. Reading
from paper does not put any strain on your eyes; however reading from
an e-book does create eye strain that can be damaging to your eyes. Some
people argue that costs for an e-book should be much less than a paper
book because you don’t have to pay for the printing press, shipping, or the
paper. But companies say that just as with a paper book, e-books require
payment to the author, payments for advertising, and in addition, there is
the computer programming of the actual e-book.

Giving affectionate care to our pets

Taking care of our pets is more than just another thing on our to-do list.
Giving pets affectionate care can actually be therapeutic. There have been
several studies done about the effects of animals on the elderly, the infirm, child
development, and people with personality disorders. All studies have come back
saying that the affectionate care we give to our pets and the companionship
that they give to us are beneficial. Taking care of our pets can lower blood
pressure, relieve stress, help us to focus, decrease depression, and help children
develop into caring and kind adults.

Write your opinion
The positive effect of competition in marketing can increase performance, resulting in faster
and better outcomes. In contrast, when it comes to sports, the performance has its quality
reduced when kids are trying to impress the spectators rather than focus on the activity itself.

How much is your time worth?

The Internet gives us a way to be protected while meeting people and also eliminates the
‘first visual impression’ problem of judging people by what we see. It is very agreeable
and less lonely to find someone out there who you relate to and with whom you can
expand your mind by sharing ideas and culture.

Backpacking vs. Holiday Package

The travel industry has become very convenient for people who just want
to pick where to go and have the rest taken care of for them. Holiday
packages do just that. The only preparation you need is to purchase the
package you want. It is, however, much more expensive to travel this
way, and your experience is very much a tourist’s view of the country. If
you prefer to do the work yourself and save some money, you can do a
backpacking trip. You will have to plan your flights, where you will stay,
plan any tours you want to go on or places you want to see. But it is all up
to you and you are able to have a more local view of the country because
you can go to local restaurants, etc. If you budget properly, this is a much
cheaper way to travel and enjoy your time in another country.

Learning a new language through immersion

The easiest way to learn a new language is through immersion. When
you are immersed in a new language, you have the benefit of having your
surroundings support your study of the language. The voices you hear, the music
you listen to, and even the food that you buy is all in the new language. You are
forced to use the few words you know and learn new words quickly as you learn
to communicate, make purchases, and even play in the new language. If you are
really interested in learning a new language, immersion is the fastest way for
you to learn. It will also help you to diminish your accent in that new language.

Children in the Past vs. Children Now

Children have certainly changed over the years. With the new age of
technology, the way children play is no longer outside in the field, but rather
inside on a virtual field. Children nowadays watch more television than ever
before. This, sadly, is resulting in a lot of childhood obesity because children
in the past used to entertain themselves by playing sports or learning an
instrument. Children now seem to have too much time on their hands and
can get into more trouble because all they have to do is go to school. Children
in the past would go to school and have to help out around the house and
work on the farm to contribute to the family’s survival. Children today wear
clothing that looks very grown-up; tank tops, bikinis, mini-skirts and more.
Whereas, in the old days, you would get in trouble if your shoulders were
showing or your knees were exposed. Their attire was much more formal, like
dresses and dress pants with white shirts.

Online learning
Online learning is becoming more and more popular each and every day.
This is due to the fact that people have more confidence in it and that people
are busier as well. The confidence of the population is increasing as more online
graduates are sharing their success stories with those around them. If one
person can do it, then others feel that it is safe and useful for them to use the
same venue for learning. Also, more working class people are seeing a need to
increase their education level. Many of these types of people have families and
responsibilities and going to a conventional college is not an option. Online
learning now provides a way for the working individual to increase his/her
education without disrupting their lives in the process.
