Content Standard

The learners demonstrate understanding of plants have body parts that make them adopt
to land and water.

Performance Standard

The learners should be able to recognize what habitat a plant would grow.

Learning Competency with Codes

The learners should be able to identify the specialized structures of terrestrial and aquatic
plants. (S4LTIIe-f-9)

I. Learning Objectives

At the end of the discussion, learners will be able to:

a. Recognize the two types of plants such as terrestrial and aquatic plants
b. Give at least 3 specialized structures of the terrestrial and aquatic plants and related
them to their environment.
c. Make an observation of plants found in the community and their specific habitats.

Excellent grade 4! All your answers are correct it means that

you’re all ready to proceed to the next topic.

2. Unlocking of Difficulties

3. Motivation/Activity PASS THE FLOWER

Directions: I have here a flower each petals has a question

that you need to answer but some petals have reward. Let’s
test your lucky today.
Petals 1: Give at least 1 part of a flower
Petals 2: Congratulation you gained 1 point.
Petals 3: Give an example of tree
Petals 4: Congratulation you gained 1 point.
Petals 5: Give an example of tree that lives in desert.

Good job grade 4! All your answers are correct and

congratulations for those students who gained points.

4. Discussion/Abstraction Now, grade 4 I want you to describe the pictures that I will be
presenting.

Picture B

Picture A

What did you observe?

Based on my observation picture A is big kind of plants and picture

B is small kind of plants.
Excellent observation. What about the others?

Ver good observation. In Picture A the tree was planted directly on

soil. While Picture B was on the water.

Today We will be discussing the plants found on the soil and water.

In Picture A this is called Terrestrial Plants and Picture B called

aquatic plants. Did you get it?

Now grade 4, What is Terrestrial Plants?

- Terrestrial plant that grows from the land.

- Terrestrial was directly planted on the soil.

Good job! Terrestrial plants grow from land. Some of terrestrial

plants are small other are big.

Terrestrial Plants grow in different places. There are plants that grow
directly on the soil. While other grow on rocks. Other plants cling to
the fence while the most number of plants are found in the field.

CHARACTERISTICS OF TERRESTIAL PLANTS

BIG TRUNKS
SOFT STEM
SMALL and BIG
With followers
Flowerless
Different kinds of leaves

Now that you already know what terrestrial is Kindly give an

example
- Mango tree

Excellent grade 4 all your answers are correct.

Now lets find out what terrestrial plants can be found in desert. Any
idea?
- Cactus

Very good! One of the desert plant is cactus.

Can someone describe cactus?
- Cactus was planted directly on the soil
- Cactus are big sometimes is small
- Cactus can hurt us
Good job!
- Cactus was planted directly on the soil
- Cactus are big sometimes is small
In addition, cactus is a desert plant it can survive in a hot dry
climate. They have thick, fleshy stem with waxy skin.

ROOTS- It absorbs water and nutrients from the soil

LEAF / LEAVES – The organ that carries out photosynthesis
SEEDS – The seed coat protects the seed and helps it spread to
new places
FLOWER - It produce seeds

Now grade 4, What is Aquatic plants?

Do you know that aqua mean water.

Aquatic plants grows in ponds, lakes and other water bodies. Such
plants, found in water are called aquatic plants.

CHARACTERISTICS OF AQUATIC PLANTS

Live under water
Floating in the water

Who among you are familiar in water lettuce?

- It floats in the water
- It’s like a plant in plants vs. zombie

For those students who are familiar with can someone describe the
water lettuce

Yes, goof job! I saw this in plant vs. Zombie

They have air filled cavities in their leaves and stem. These cavities
make them light and help them to easily float on water.

What can you see in the picture?

Excellent and this is called hydrilla and this is one of the example of
a plants that grow under water.

Can someone describe the hydrilla based on the picture

presented.

Hydrilla helps making water suitable for fish and other aquatic
plants.

Parts of an Aquatic Plants

Leaves
stems
Roots

The leaves, stems, and roots grow entirely underwater although

some of its leaves float. In addition, they have flowers usually raised
above the water surface. They usually grow near the shore up to
the deepest part of the littoral zone.

Did you understand the characteristics of terrestrial and aquatic

plants?

5. Application You’re Invited

You’re invited to participate in our group activity.

Directions: The class will be divided into 4 groups each group

has its representative that will choose the invitation with
specific activity inside.

Before that what are the thing we need to consider while we

are having a group activity?

Rubrics:

While doing the activity I am observing each group using this

“Emojis”

🙂- I will put smile face meaning your group is doing quietly.

😢 – Sad if your group is not collaborating to each other.
😡 –Angry if your group members are roaming around our
room.

FIX IT

Directions: Give at least 3 specialized structures of the terrestrial

and related them to their environment.

HUNT

Directions: List all the plants that your groupmates are familiar then
choose five plants and Identify if it is terrestrial or aquatic plants.
