Narrative Report: The Salettinian Journalism Seminar and Workshop

Date: December 13-15, 2023

Location: University of La Salette Inc.

RETROSPECT:

The Salettinian Publication aimed to develop the current Editorial Board of the
Publication in preparation for the then, Regional Higher Education Press Conference in
Tuguegarao. Spearheaded by the Adviser, Arjay Jonathan Sabio, Editor-in-Chief, Jeanne
Manaligod , and Associate Editor, Reuven Seth Donato.

The Associate Editor contacted former members of the The Salettinian publication
to give a discussion and tips about their respective fields in journalism.

The Salettinian invited The Reconciler ( ULS Highschool Publication) and


Dimension, in order to empower the movement of campus journalism in the Salettinian
Community.
Day 1 December 13, 2023

With a theme " Cultivating the power of Campus Journalists : Empowering Skills,
Amplifying Voices".

The first day of the Seminar and Workshop started with the registration of the
participants in front of the Exhibit room. As soon as the registration ended and all
participants are inside the premises, Mr. Anton Narciso III ( former member of The
Salettinian and officer of the Student Executive Council) started his lecture about the role
of campus journalists and how journalism affects the society. He was able to share his
experiences in his work towards the current campus journalists of La Salette.

In the afternoon, Mr. Marc Angelo Martinez ( Former Highest Pointer in RHEPC
and Member of The Salettinian) conducted a discussion in which he shared his winning
piece in Devcom entitled " Isang araw pa" to the participants and gave tips on how to
write a winning piece in Devcom Writing. He also conducted a small writing in Devcom
in which, he critiqued all the works to give more knowledge to the writers.

The last speaker for Day 1 was Mr. Randolf Brent Navoa, a talented
photojournalist who gave a detailed discussion about Photojournalism. The speaker were
given recognition before day one ends.

Day 2 December 14, 2023

Day two started with two exquisite Literary Writers, Hanzel Calangan and Ecy
Bless Chocyagan as speakers( Former Members of The Salettinian). They talked about
literary writing and shared their works and techniques on writing a literary piece.

Mr. Joel P. Bembo also gave an interactive discussion about Copyreading and
Headline Writing and elaborated on how crucial a copyreader's role in a publication.

Before day two ended, Ms. Jessa Acosta gave a lively discussion about Radio and
TV broadcasting. The participants were able to showcase their skills in Radio and TV
broadcasting with the activity prepared by Ma'am Acosta.

Day 3 December 15, 2023


The Seminar was moved from the Exhibit Room to the CPD Building second floor.
Mr. Gio Miguel Venturina, who stayed at the ULS Dormitory coming from Nueva Ecija
offered a systematic discussion in every event in journalism. He also highlighted the do's
and don'ts in publication management. With this added knowledge, campus journalists
from La Salette gains advantage and learnings in the field of Campus Journalism.

PROSPECT:

The Salettinian Seminar and Workshop is a success for both the participants and
speakers as both parties participated and contributed in the said events. Proof is the
multiple awards bagged by The Salettinian Publication in the recently concluded RHEPC
Tuguegarao. In which, this Seminar and Workshop greatly helped the Editorial Board

The evaluation results are as follows:

Mean Interpretation

The program goals were fulfilled. 3.8 Strongly Agree

The program helped the organization achieve its vision 3.9 Strongly Agree
and mission.

The location or venue is adequate. 3.9 Strongly Agree

The time allocated for the program is adequate. 3.7 Strongly Agree

The event was advertised well. Students are informed 3.75 Strongly Agree
through social media.

The student responded well to the activity. 3.4 Strongly Agree

1. What was the most successful part of the event?
● Engaging Discussion
● Each particular field was discussed. Everybody had an idea how each field works.
● Everything

2. What elements of the event should be improved?


● None, all is perfect

3. Other comments:
● I appreciate how there is not much dead air during the program due to the
inserting or random impromptu comments while we were waiting, so I did not
feel too bored throughout the program.
