Caruso ENGL 1101 Re-Creation Defense Paper When the word re-creation is brought up, what comes to mind? What might a recreation convey that the original creation didnt? Both these questions have different answers depending on how and what is being re-created. A picture of my friends and I is an example of an original text. The colors, objects, and people all represent a deeper meaning than what is visible. The picture may have meaning to me, but not everyone will understand the deeper meaning because they dont know the people in the photo. Re-creating the picture into a poster to convey my friends personalities is an example of a re-creation of the original text. What kind of thoughts can a poster convey that the picture cant? The poster separates my different friends so that they are individuals, not part of a group. This helps to break the picture down and make it easier to focus on one part of the photo at a time. Personality in the original photograph was represented through poses and objects that were being held. There wasnt much in the picture to help draw conclusions about the people or of the group as a whole. The poster however contains pictures of my four friends and each of their photographs are surrounded by objects and symbols and reflect on their individual character. In addition to the objects reflecting the personalities of each individual, group pictures of different memories help to show the group as a whole.

Although we are all individuals, we are also a family and mold so that we uniquely fit perfectly to support and to help each other grow. Elements making up the poster are similar to that of the original picture, but the elements are arranged differently to help draw conclusions about the different people. The symbols and objects in the original picture were limited and allowed little to make accurate inferences on; however the poster has several symbols that represent many characteristics, allowing people to have more of a foundation to base deductions off of. Objects such as chocolate cake and soccer balls represent actual objects that particular person likes or does. For example, Danielle is in Zeta Tau Alpha and she has ZTA written under her picture. Objects such as that are simple and show certain hobbies or interests of my different friends. Hobbies and interest arent the only objects to describe my friends; there are objects such as fire and Abraham Lincoln that are deeper in meaning. Not only do these objects provoke thought, but they show true characteristics; fire represents heat and passion, while Abraham Lincoln was not only a leader but was also known as honest Abe. Each object has meaning behind it and helps describe all the people in my photograph. Color was another element from my original photograph that helped to describe different traits about my friends. Although color did describe my friends, it wasnt important enough to emphasize in my re-creation poster. I used color along the outside of the pictures and to write the title of the poster. I choose the favorite color of each person and outlined their picture with it. Since we all either like blue or purple, I decided to alternate colors when writing the title. In my original picture, Sam was wearing blue, which represent how she was calm and easy-going, since my re-creation relied on objects

and symbols to represent personality, color wasnt needed to describe her personality like it was in the original picture. Although color was somewhat used in my re-creation poster, there were other elements from the original photograph that were not address at all in the re-creation. The setting from original photograph played no importance in the overall message of the picture. The re-creation doesnt contain a setting, because my friends and I all do different activities all the time. Including a setting in the re-creation would have been pointless, because it would have held no meaning in the overall effect of the poster Analyzing each individual by themself is a key point when looking at my recreation poster, but analyzing everybody as a whole family is just as important as the single individuals. The re-creation poster includes several group pictures that reflect on past memories shared by all of us. The group pictures show how close we really are and how weve grown up together and how weve help to mold one another. The original photo was just a single photograph of all of us, but the recreation includes many memories that help to create a sense of family. People are able to look at the re-creation poster and see just how close we really are and some of the hobbies we find entertaining. My re-creation allowed me to show characteristics and interests of my friends that the original picture was not able to portray. Although my re-creation allowed the personality of my friends to show through, there are some disadvantages to my poster. The re-creation poster contains more visuals and pictures than the original, so there is more room for confusion. Since pictures and objects arent straight forward and require thought then there can be different vision
