ASHTON HAYES PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWS

ISSUE 11 / AUTUMN TERM 2011 / THURSDAY 15TH DECEMBER 2011

The school watched with many cheers as the nal mobile classroom this project. In addition, much hard work has been done within the Ashton Hayes community to secure 15kW of solar panels which are now generating electricity for the school. There will be more to say in terms of thanks and how we will use the building when we ofcially open the classrooms. I have invited the Lord Mayor of Chester to formally open the classrooms on Tuesday 10th January 2012 from 1.30pm. We will have an open afternoon following the opening where all members of the community, parents (current, past and future), ofcers from CWaC, representatives from the design and build project will all be invited to share our celebrations. This building is more than just bricks and mortar to us...it is a place where we can continue to give all children the best possible chance in their primary education...something that we are all very proud of.

END OF THE BUILDING WORK

The week has nally arrived when I can let you know that the building work has come to an end!

At 2.30pm last Friday, all the children counted down from 10 and then walked into the completed classrooms for the rst time. We all sat in Class 4 (before the furniture was put in) and had our celebration assembly. The celebration that week was that the school has nally enough room for ve classes in the same building...something that the school has waited for, for over 20 years!

was razed to the ground on Wednesday. The nal jobs are to clear the site of all the builders equipment and return it to bare ground ready for seeding in the Spring. I hope you will also notice the absence of the ugly oil tank taken which was taken away last week. The remaining jobs are some softs to be tted and external lights, as well as a few minor snagging issues inside.

THEATRE VISIT FOR KS2

Class 4 and 5 had a fantastic afternoon last week as we drove to the New Vic Theatre in Stoke to enjoy an excellent production of Alice in Wonderland. The children were stunned by amazing effects, beautiful singing, clever card tricks and stunning props. The children also enjoyed meeting their friends from Huxley CE Primary School as they shared the trip with us.

I am delighted that this dream has nally become a reality. I have to admit that it has been a very busy time since August, when the contractors arrived on site...but I hope you will agree, it has been worth all the waiting and hard work. I am also really pleased that the building has been completed within schedule, in fact 3 days ahead of schedule!

My thanks go to ISG (the contractors) and all their subcontractors who have built a high quality, modern and exciting space for the children to use in the future. In particular, I would like to thank Barry Corbett, the Site Manager, for all his attention to detail and for being patient with me when I continually tweaked the design and construction to get it all just right! Thanks also to Lovelock Mitchell, the architects, for bringing my vision into reality. Importantly, we must also thank Cheshire West and Chester for funding the majority of

Dont forget... Our Carol Service will be in St. Johns Church on Monday 19th December at 7.00pm. There will be mulled wine, coffee, tea, juice and mince pies back in school immediately after the service.

KS1 THEATRE VISIT TO SCHOOL

The Infant children also had a wonderful production, held in school yesterday. We invited Huxley CE Primary School and Barrow CE Primary School to join in the fun as we were entertained by a lovely production of The Snow Queen.

performed in school this week. They have really enjoyed all the singing and acting and the nal result was lovely. Thanks to all the staff for all their work and to the parents who have kindly spent time making the costumes to help the end result look stunning!

SING THE CHRISTMAS STORY

I was very proud to take part in the Sing the Christmas Story carol service in the Cathedral in Chester last week. Over 500 children lled the cathedral with wonderful singing and music. We enjoyed listening to the Christmas story and to other schools who sang us extra songs. Apologies that we were were back slightly later than expected...the organisers wanted to pack as much in as possible!
