* Your shadow should be less than 10 times the length of your own feet
and sun exposure should be direct on skin (no glass or sunscreen.)

Notes:
1. D-Estimator has been designed to estimate vitamin D blood levels. Enter all yellow fields. Zero is OK, if the answer to the question really is zero. Estimated 25(OH)D blood level is displayed immediately. Check Vitamin D Status using pink table titled 25(OH)D Blood Levels. 2. D-Estimator also displays an estimate of how much vitamin D3 you make from sunshine. Make sure you enter all your personal particulars correctly, then enter weekly minutes of sun exposure of various kinds. Then see the blue total at the bottom of the Daily Vitamin D (IU) column. You can also use D-Estimator to estimate how much vitamin D3 you need to supplement. Enter all fields, as though you were estimating your blood level, except for the question: Of the last 6 months, which have been warm enough ? Enter that answer as YYYYYY. Answer all questions about sun exposure (weekly minutes) as accurately as you can, but consider that you are telling DEstimator how much sun you expect to be getting in the near future, rather than how much you took in the past.

When you get to the supplement question (cell i24), any supplement dose you enter will affect the Estimated blood level. Enter different values of supplement dose until you find one that causes the Estimated blood level to be 50 ng/ml. If you take that dose of vitamin D3 as a daily supplement, together with the amount of sun exposure you entered, you should maintain a near-optimum blood level of vitamin D. If your sun exposure habits change (as they will with the seasons) simply enter the changed information and find your new estimated dose as before.
