11/09/2011 Did you know that it would take approximately an extra $34 million dollars for the state to enact Senate Bill 512? -great talking point
Local Reports- Skipped due to low attendance for parent-teacher conferences in other districts. GPA Report: Rainy Kaplan Senate Bill 512- passed by 1 vote, now on House Floor House Bill 3815-This is going into effect ASAP. No union officer (not at local level, but IEA level) can claim union officer salary in retirement. AKAall years of service as officer (like IEA Executive Board, Unis-erve Directors, etc.) would be lost and retirement would be based off teacher salary only. Thus those that have left the classroom to work for IEA can only retire with their years of service in teaching. IEA pays into TRS-teacher portion of pension and state portion of pension. IEA is not costing tax payers. UniServ Director-Naomi Sheperd Monthy Issue: SB7 RIF Comittees 12/1/11- Latest dae for RIF Joint Committee to commence work. o Dist. 66 Joint Committee met with Mark Safranski, Terri Smeltzer, and Mary Bucklin representing each school in our local. o 2/1/12- SB 7 RIF Joint Committee agreements in place for Spring 2012 RIFs unless grandfathered CBA RIF provisions. Region Chair Report-Rainy Kaplan IPACE- Redistrict 2012 Jan./Feb. Recommendations Hearing for redistricting all o only President can vote unless your local fills out designee form. o Gov. Relations handles recommendation hearings for legislators IEA RA Elections and Election law-It is federal law that these elections are held. IEA RA Hotel-IEA Ra lodging will be at Hilton Tower and Suites in Chicago. Our region should get one suite to meet in. Party Planning-at REEL restaurant in Oakbrook on December 14. School Report Card- will be changing through ISBE. o It will be a one page document. o Teacher absences will be reported on here o Was suggested teachers schooling information and ACT scores however this was not permitted NEA Director election at RA-Rainy Kaplan will be running for election PEAC Recommendations- Performance Evaluation Advisory Council-
