Elections to the BAR Board, BAR(S) & QSS

On 17 February, a call went out to Members for volunteers to stand for election to fill forthcoming vacancies for a Directly Elected Director on the BAR Board, and Directors for the Bar (Services) Board, and QSS Board. The deadline for volunteers was today, 2 March. Due to the unprecedented level of responses received (none), the deadline has been extended to 5.00 pm Wednesday 21st March 2012. So, if you do wish to take part in this important part of the democratic structure of the Association, or would like to know more what is involved, please let the Company Secretary know at james.falkner@bar.co.uk by the new deadline. If there are no volunteers by then, the posts will have to remain vacant, which will be a pity, and a valuable opportunity for Members to direct and guide the work of the Association and its subsidiaries will have been lost.

Help get a cut in petrol & diesel prices in the budget

With less then 20 days to the budget, email your MP to help in the ongoing fight for lower petrol & diesel prices. The FairFuelUK team has commissioned a report from a respected think tank that blows away the Governments argument that it cant cut petrol & diesel taxes due to lost revenue. This vital report shows that any revenue lost to the Government from the cut would be more than made up by the thousands of jobs that would be created and the boost to the general economy. Please help to get our MPs to give this report serious consideration and urge the Chancellor to cut fuel duty in the Budget. To email your MP, click here Dont forget to join the FairFuelUK team this Wednesday 7th March for a mass lobby in the House of Commons. For full details, click here

A sad farewell to Bob Hollis

Bob Hollis, a founding Director of Diamond Relocations Ltd sadly passed away on 10th February 2012 aged 62 after a short illness. After working for several service providing companies, Bob formed Diamond in 1990 and as the company grew, he encouraged other members of his family to join him to help maintain the friendly and caring culture of the company. Bob was due to become a grandfather for the first time in the next few weeks, with both his son and daughter expecting arrivals of their first children.

We wish his wife Kay, family, colleagues and friends our sincere condolences.
