I WONDER how many people who are demanding live footy on TV are actually members of their respective clubs? Shane, Richmond TO Terry of Narre Warren (Text Talk, March 14), not everyone can get to live games. Try knocking off work at 5pm, then getting to the G by 7.30pm when its a three or four-hour drive. County Victorians should be the first to get Friday night football live. Greg, Warrnambool YET another negative article about a music festival . . . 43 arrests out of 40,000 and none of them for obnoxious behaviour. Thats still better than the cricket. The Bandit, Oak Park HOW sad the earthquake in Japan. The footage gave me chills down my spine. S.S, Oakleigh Sth I MUST be psychic because when I heard about damage to a nuclear powerplant in Japan I knew Bob Brown would use this tragedy to further push his political agenda. . . Michael, Mt Evelyn VICTORIA, the Magpie State. Brad, Croydon PLEASE, AFL, no more teams in the finals. Youre already rewarding mediocrity. DP, Brunswick, WA

MS Gillard must sack Kevin Rudd immediately. Our Foreign Minister is running around the world spilling his own propaganda with no regard for the ALP or our nation. He is a man scorned. John Hubbard, Wesburn JULIA stabbed Rudd in the back and hes making her pay for it. Arthur, Ballarat

Combet fails to convince

I WATCHED Laurie Oakes interviewing Greg Combet on Weekend Today (March 13). WHAT a wooden, uncomfortable and unconvincing performance from Combet. So now a carbon tax becomes a carbon price. Nasty word, tax, especially when consumers go to the checkout. Combet admitted that prices would increase moderately, but given Labors track record on accounting, moderate means sky high. This was pointed out when Oakes showed a video clip of President Obama talking about price rises. The President admitted to the increases; why cant Combet?

revolt against the cost of cleaning up carbon pollution? Congratulations, Tony. Are you going to march against your local council recycling program, too? Or maybe you will demand a moratorium on the flushing of toilet waste. After all, it must cost heaps to properly collect and process all that effluent. Really, Mr Abbott, when are you going to admit that carbon pollution has a real cost and needs to be accounted for?

did not intervene. In the words of Edmund Burke: All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.

Service stations play copycat

ON Saturday, the price of petrol suddenly went up to $151.9 a litre at service stations in my area. The Coles and Woolworthscontrolled service stations, Shell and Caltex, may be putting up prices to cover discounting in their supermarkets, but why do Mobil, BP and the independent service stations follow suit?

tude (Pet bans hurt the most vulnerable, March 11). That is unless you own rental property, where the carpets have been scratched up by bored dogs and the back yard turned into a manure minefield. Nice thought, but there are a lot of tenants who wouldnt give a barkers egg for the state of the property theyre renting.

KELLI Underwood, great calling. Netballs gain, footballs loss. Noelene, Nunawading FORGET Bin Laden. What are we going to do about Mother Natures reign of terror? A. Gardiner, East Geelong WHILE I have every sympathy for the Japanese, I am horrified that they built nuclear reactors in such an area. Robert Herring, Collingwood I SAW Julia Gillards speech to the US Congress, but preferred The Kings Speech. Kerry, Kingston, Tas JULIAS Aussie iPod playlist just shows how out of touch she is with Australians. Shelly, Melbourne IF the crowds at the caravan and camping expo are anything to go by, soon we wont be able to move in the Outback! Sue, Emerald THERE is an upside to petrol being $1.49 a litre. You dont have to queue up for it. Steve, Mentone

Union fails to deal with Libya

THE African Union has rejected military intervention in Libya. In doing so, it stated that, the council reaffirms its firm commitment to the respect of the unity and territorial integrity of Libya, as well as its rejection of any form of foreign military intervention. To the best of my knowledge, every genocide perpetrated was because foreign militaries

Gillards US visit embarrassing

I AM amazed at the letters praising Julia Gillard for her speech to the US Congress. Some previous prime ministers have tried to ingratiate themselves with US politicians, but Ms Gillard has outdone them all. I have no doubt that she is the biggest embarrassment to the Australian people and has degraded Australias reputation with her sycophantic approach.

DONNA GRECH
43, Pakenham I dont think nuclear power should be used anywhere. The damage and the danger might not be confined to just Japan. It could spread to neighbouring countries.

MICHAEL ATKINS
49, Pakenham I think were going to need it one day. Its better for the environment because its cleaner than coal. Before the disasters in Japan I thought it was a viable option, but now Im much more concerned.

HARRY TINDALL
63, Carrara, Qld I dont think it should be used in Australia. I was just beginning to think it could have been a viable option but after seeing the dangers Japan now faces I dont think we should consider it.

JESSICA
16, Hurstbridge I havent really been aware of the issues around using nuclear power, but considering what Japan is going through I dont think its a good idea for Australia.
