Peasant crowned princess after royal ball

incident, prince now faces backlash

By Roy L. Re’Porter, 1866, the Charming Kingdom

Young Ella Tremaine (known as “Cinderella”) has recently been married to the famous Prince Henry
of the Charming Kingdom after a strange series of events that occurred at the annual Royal Ball.
Much of the Kingdom celebrates and welcomes the new princess. However, with every good thing
comes bad, and the prince is now facing backlash and arguments that this wedding should have
never happened.

The event that began the path to this wedding occurred at the Annual Royal Ball, which is hosted
every four years by the royals of the Charming Kingdom. Onlookers were captivated by a
mysterious young girl’s arrival, later revealed to be Miss Tremaine, who turned up in a beautiful
silken dress and caught the eye of Prince Henry. The two danced together, winning the applause of
the crowd as well as disappointing hopefuls who intended to meet and potentially woo the young
Prince.

At midnight, disaster struck when Ella suddenly sprinted out of the ballroom for reasons still
unknown, surprising the prince. Further interviews with the newly crowned Princess still have not
revealed why she left so abruptly. As she left down the stairs, she tripped, leaving behind a
singular, well-made glass slipper. Henry was left in distress — “…I’d just met this beautiful, smart
young lady, who seemed to take interest in me, and then she left, just like that. Not a word of
warning or anything,” the Prince remarked in a later interview. The night continued without many
problems, but Henry was said to have mourned her disappearance all night.

The Prince, who said he felt had just met his soulmate, investigated the one remaining clue to her
identity, that being the glass slipper. Research was conducted by professionals on the slipper, and
it was found to be very fitted to the young lady’s foot. A questionable method was then employed:
Henry travelled around the kingdom, to test whether the attendees of the ball’s feet perfectly fit
the slipper or not.

The “mystery girl” was revealed to be one of the most unlikely candidates: Ella “Cinderella”
Tremaine, a young peasant girl living with her stepmother and stepsisters. Prince Henry and Miss
Tremaine quickly fell in love, and had their royal wedding ceremony recently, crowning the girl
Princess Ella Charming. But as it so happens, not everything is as perfect as it seems.

Many civilians, for one reason or another, believe that Henry and Ella should have never gotten
together. The reasons behind this argument greatly differ: some being disappointed that the widely
liked Prince is enamoured with a "simple peasant" as they call the soon-to-be princess, some
viewing the decision as rushed, because of the fact that Henry couldn’t even remember the face of
the girl he’d supposedly fell in love with — the Prince blamed for being having drunk too much
alcohol, and therefore “thinking a random peasant all dressed in fancy clothes could be his one
true love! She doesn’t even come from a wealthy family!” remarked one duchess. Others accuse
Charming of having a perverted nature for going around the kingdom and viewing the feet of the
damsels — "peering at the toes of a young lass... that's not right, I'd say," quoted a local farmer.

The newlyweds have yet to respond to these accusations in any interviews, but the conflict around
this issue seems to be growing by the day. If this backlash isn’t addressed soon, outsiders have
speculated it could lead to a rebellion of the people against their prince and princess. Other
members of royalty, such as multiple dukes and duchesses, have voiced their opinions on this
issue, seeming to largely want to stay out of this conflict, but the immediate royal family; including
the king, queen, Prince Henry and Princess Ella, and the Prince’s many younger brothers; have not
yet discussed anything around this topic, only that they welcome Ella into the family with warm
arms.
We have yet to see if the decision or the response of the young Prince will cause an even larger riot
among the civilians, but one thing is agreed on by most — the days to come will not be pretty for
the royal Charming family.
