ENGAGE (5mins): Get the learners’ mind focused on the topic.

Good morning Class! How are you all doing today? PowerPoint presentation
Can we get an energy check? Laptop

Before we proceed to our lesson, let us have a

short activity to engage ourselves! Our first activity
is called “ Just Sing ” . Are you all ready?

Activity Procedures:
1. The teacher will let the students observe
the tune and melody of the song as well as
its actions.
2. The students will then sing the song with
action together with the teacher.
3. The teacher then will let the students sing
and dance on their own.

After the students successfully executed the song,

the teacher will briefly ask the following:
1. What is the song all about?
2. What do you feel after singing the song?

After gaining all their observations and insights, the

teacher will then explain the activity.

EXPLORE (5mins) Provide learners with a common experience.

“ HELP ME, ATE! ” Printed Cut-outs

Cartolina
● The teacher will ask for a volunteer in front. Number line
● The volunteer will be assigned to
manipulate the object.
● The teacher then will say to the volunteers
on which place the object will go.
● Each place represents a sign of a number.
Example:
The bridge represents a zero, if the object
crosses the bridge to the right side ice
cream, the ice cream is a positive sign. If
the object goes to the left, it is a negative
sign.
● After that, the teacher will ask the students
if the volunteer did it right.
● If it is right, we will proceed to another one.

Instruction:
The students will first sing the “ I’m the Map”
song so that it helps DORA find her way to the
destination. After the Map says which
direction, the volunteer will manipulate DORA
in going to places which the Map tells.

• The teacher will then ask questions to students

about their activity.

Guided Questions:
1. What did you learn in our activity?

2. What are the numbers on the positive

signs?
3. What are the numbers on the negative
signs?
4. How did you figure out the positive and
negative signs?

After knowing their takeaways, the teacher

then will go to the lesson proper.

EXPLAIN (30mins)

Now that all of you are already energized, we

hope that you will listen properly to our Laptop
discussion. PowerPoint Presentation
When I say “Ready na, ready na?” you will
respond “Aha! aha!”

Ok class, ready na, ready na? *students response

Kindly give me 1 clap, 2 claps, and many many

claps!

Alright!

Now, as you can see in front, we have a lot of cut

out pictures here, what do you observe about the *students response
pictures?
*Scattered cut outs numbers with sign

Ok, thank you so much, class! All of your

answers are valid!

Now let’s find out what it is!

Our activities earlier are connected to our topic

which is about the Introduction to Sign Numbers.

Class, who among you here has an idea of what *students response
Sign numbers are?

Signed numbers
- are real numbers other than zero
- it is a number without an imaginary

component
- Sign number can either be positive of
negative
- numbers have a sign in front of them:
(+) sign if positive
(−) sign if negative

Aa. Positive numbers: Numbers greater than

zero (e.g., +1, +5, +10). In everyday life, positive
numbers can represent things like gain, above sea
level, or temperatures above freezing.

b. Negative numbers: Numbers less than zero

(e.g., −1, −5, −10). Negative numbers can
represent loss, below sea level, or temperatures
below freezing.

c. Zero (0): Zero is neither positive nor

negative. It is the neutral number that separates
positive and negative values on a number line.

Now, let’s visualize the sign numbers.

We will be able to visualize it with the use of a

number line.

But before we proceed, let’s have an activity

called, “Where do I belong”.

In our board, we have here a straight line and a

scattered picture that you observed in our activity
earlier. Now, here’s the instruction.

Instruction:
1. The teacher will ask 10 volunteers to come
in front.
2. The 10 volunteers will choose a picture on
the board and place it to a specific part of
the line.
3. Once the volunteers are done, they can go
back to their respective seats.

Ok! Thank you so much for your participation,

class! Let’s see if your answers are correct!

The output that you made is a number line.

Number line
- is a horizontal line with incremental marks
indicating the position of numbers.
- It helps visualize the relationship between
positive and negative numbers.
- The conventional layout for number line will
have the positive numbers on the right,
negative numbers on the left and zero
between the negative numbers and the
positive numbers.
- The further right you go on the number line,
the larger the positive numbers. The further
left you go, the larger the negative numbers.
- Every positive number, there is a negative
counterpart. These counterparts are the
same distance from zero. For example, the
number 5 and -5 are the same distance from
zero.

Positive numbers are to the right of zero.

Negative numbers are to the left of zero.

If the temperature is 21 degrees above zero

then where will you go? To the right or to the
left?

Yes! You will go to the right, making it +21 or 21

How about when you’re asked to locate in the

number line if you lose 3 points?

Correct! You will go to the left, making it -3.

Alright! I hope that you learned a lot from our

discussion about Sign Numbers! Now, I’d like to
ask a question.

Question:
1. How do you interpret a number line?
*Answers may vary

Now that we’ve understood the concept of signed

numbers, let us dig a little deeper to our discussion
by having an activity!

The activity is called “HopHop Hooray!”

As you can see, we have a number line right here.

It shows both positive and negative numbers. The
class will be divided into two teams. Each team will
choose a player to answer a real-life situation. Are
you all ready?

Instructions:
- The class will be divided into two groups.
- After choosing a player, they will choose a
card which contains a situation.
- They will be given a few seconds to
answer.
- Once they’ve analyzed the answer, they will
choose the correct number in the
lines/squares by hopping.
- The first team that gets to finish quickly
wins.

Card #1:
It's 10 degrees below zero.
Answer: -10

Card #2:
Sheilah gained 25 points in the video game.
Answer: +25 or 25

Now to wrap up our discussion and reflect on what

you’ve learned today, we will have a short quiz
about signed numbers! Are you all ready? Laptop
PowerPoint Presentation
The teacher will then provide worksheets for each Worksheets provided by the teacher
student.

You have 10 minutes to answer your quiz, Good

Luck!
