Daily Lesson Plan in Grade 7 Mathematics

THE SET OF INTEGERS
October 16 , 2023

CONTENT STANDARD: The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of sets and
the real number system..

PERFORMANCE STANDARD: The learner is able to formulate challenging situations

involving sets and real numbers and solve these in a variety of strategies.

LEARNING COMPETENCY: The students are expected to represent the absolute value of a
number on a number line as a distance of a number from 0. (M7NS – Ic– 1 )

I. OBJECTIVES:
1. Define integers.
2. Explain important terms related to integers.
3. Represent real-life situations using integers.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

a. Topic: The Real Number System
b. Sub-topic: The Set of Integers
c. Materials: balls, basket ball ring, charts
d. Reference: E – Math I pp. 35 - 41
e. Values to be Integrated: Being optimistic in life

III. LEARNING PROCEDURES

TEACHING STRATEGIES : 4A’s, Think-Pair Share and Direct Instruction

Preliminary Activities Organizing the class

Prayer
Cleaning of the room
Checking of attendance
A. BEFORE THE LESSON
ACTIVITY Divide the class into 2 groups. Ask a representative
from each group to give the opposite of the word
posted on the board. But before they could do it, they
should first shoot the ball in the ring attached on the
board. The first to shoot the ball will have the chance
to write the opposite of the word written on the
board. The first to write the correct answer can

contribute a point to the group.
After the activity, the teacher will ask the students to
observe the words written on the board.
Love – hate brave – coward
Humble – proud up – down
Kind – cruel happy - sad
ANALYSIS Ask them the following questions:
1. What can you say about the pairs of words? What
do you call them?
2. In English, what term refers to opposite words?
3. From the given word pairs, which words have
positive meaning? Negative meaning?
4. In Mathematics, what do you call the positive and
negative numbers?
Present the objectives for the day.
B. DURING THE LESSON
ABSTRACTION Discussion of important concepts about integers will be
facilitated by the teacher.
 The combination of zero, natural numbers and
their additive inverses make up the set of integers.
 The number line is used to represent integers. The
number line goes on forever in opposite
directions. This is indicated in the arrows.
 Whole numbers greater than zero are called
positive integers. These numbers are to the right
of zero on the number line.
 Whole numbers less than zero are called negative
integers. These numbers are to the left of zero on
the number line.
 The integer zero is neutral. It is neither positive nor
negative.
 The sign of an integer is either positive (+) or
negative (-) except zero, which has no sign.
 Two integers are opposites if they are the same
distance from zero but on opposite sides of the
number line. One will have a positive sign and the
other a negative sign.
 The number associated with a point on a number
line is the coordinate of the point.
 The number on the number line assigned to 0 is
called the origin.

APPLICATION Tell the students that we can relate integers in real
life.
Complete the table. The first one is done for you.
(Let the students answer by pair.)

C. AFTER THE LESSON

GENERALIZATION The teacher will ask the following questions:
FACT or BLUFF? Answer FACT if the statement is true
and BLUFF if not.
1. All whole numbers are integers.
2. Zero is a positive integer.
3. Two integers are opposites if they have the same
distance from zero.
4. The point on the number line assigned to 1 is called
the origin.
5. The set of integers consists of all positive whole
numbers, all negative whole numbers and zero.
VALUES INTEGRATION 1. In your life as students, what are the things that
you are doing that you consider as something positive
in order for you to succeed in your studies?
2. What are some of your practices that you think are
negative or can be a hindrance to achieve your goals
in your studies of in life? Will you continue doing
those things?

a. The set of integers is the union of the set of ___________ numbers and the
negative of the _________ numbers.
b. The number _______ is neither positive nor negative.
c. If “100” indicates a profit of P 100.00, then “ _____” indicates a loss of P
100.00
d. If -15 indicates 15 steps down, then, _____ indicates 15 steps up.
e. _________ is the number associated with a point on the number line.

B. Write an integer to represent each situation.
