Maps provide insights into time, place and space and show how the world has changed over time, but they can be affected by
different perspectives.

Objectives Summative Assessment
Criterion A: knowing and Creating and designing a fictional map, and
understanding. producing a written reflection on the process of
Strand I and II designing a map.
Criterion B: investigating.
Strand IV Goal
Criterion C: communicating. Students will demonstrate their understanding of
Strand I and II geography and creativity by designing fictional
maps that represent imaginary worlds.
Role
Students will take on the role of cartographers
who are tasked with creating detailed and
visually appealing maps of fictional lands.
Audience
The audience for this performance task is the
students' parents and classmates.
Situation
Students will imagine and create their own
fictional worlds, complete with unique
landscapes, cities, landmarks, and geographical
features. They will design maps that accurately
represent their imaginary worlds, including key
elements such as scale, legends, and symbols.
The maps should showcase the students'
creativity and attention to detail.
Product/Performance and Standards
Students will present their fictional maps to their
parents and classmates, explaining the different
elements and features of their imaginary worlds.
The maps should demonstrate the students'
understanding of geography concepts, as well as
their ability to think critically and creatively.
