Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION

This chapter provides a general overview of what the research is all about.
Indicates what is already known and what gaps exist/urgency to conduct the study.

Background of the Study

 This is a brief discussion of the background and context of the study. The
researchers are expected to discuss the idea or problem that led them to the topic they
are studying as well as their motivations for choosing this topic.

● 1st paragraph States the problem/ general problematic situation

● 2nd paragraph International (Asia or ASEAN).
● 3rd paragraph National
● 4th paragraph Local
● 5th paragraph states the research gap, urgency of the study and contribution to
the literature and new knowledge if any.

Statement of the Problem

This is a brief discussion of the purpose of the research project, the problem it
wishes to address, and the questions that it seeks to answer.

a. Research Problem
This is a brief discussion of the specific issue or concern that the
researcher wishes to investigate. This is usually written in a way that presents the
particular issue or concern as a problem that needs to be investigated through
research. (1-2 paragraph)

Research Questions
This is an articulation of the central question and the subquestions that
the researcher intends to answer in their project.
1. What is the level of IV in terms of;
   1.1 Indicator 1;
   1.2 Indicator 2;
   1.3 Indicator 3; and
   1.4 Indicator 4?

2. What is the level of DV in terms of;

  2.1 Indicator 1;
   2.2 Indicator 2;
   2.3 Indicator 3; and
   2.4 Indicator 4?
3. Is there a significant relationship between IV and DV?

Significance of the Study

 This explains why the research is beneficial, the benefits from the study, as well
as for whom the study will be beneficial (intended audience). State the general
importance of your study and the social value of your research. You may or may not cite
sources

Review of Related Literature (10-15 pages)

 The review of related literature surveys, summarizes, evaluates, and synthesizes
studies that are related to or relevant to the research project.

a. Overview of the RRL

This describes the topics covered and how the review of related literature is
organized.

b. Thematic Discussion of Relevant Literature

This is the discussion proper of the studies that are related or relevant to the
study being conducted. It can be organized chronologically or thematically
depending on the study being conducted. At the minimum, the review of related
literature is expected to discuss the latest literature on each of the key concepts
of the study. As well, the review should also discuss the theories that are related
to or under consideration. The researcher is expected to evaluate the literature
and be conscious of how they relate to the study.
c. Synthesis
At the end of the review of related literature, the researcher is expected to
summarize and synthesize what the studies reviewed have said about the
research topic. As well, this section should also explicitly mention the "gaps in
knowledge" or the questions that the current literature has so far not been able to
address. It can help provide a strong basis for arguing the importance of the
study, especially if the researcher is able to show that their research question has
not yet been answered in the existing literature.

Theoretical Framework
This describes and discusses in the researcher's own words the theoretical or
conceptual framework adopted in the study.

Narrative Discussion of the Framework

This is a narrative discussion of the theory adopted by the researcher to guide
the study. In the case of conceptual framework, the researcher is expected to
discuss and argue the link between the different concepts based on the literature
review. The theoretical or conceptual framework can take on different forms. If
the study involves hypothesis testing, the hypothesis can be discussed here.
Conceptual Framework
This is a visual representation intended to facilitate the reader's understanding of
the framework. It can take the form of a diagram or Rowchart.

Scope and Limitations

 This discusses briefly the parameters of the study. It should explain briefly who/
what specifically is being studied, the specific aspect being studied, and the period
covered by the study. It should also acknowledge any inherent limitation to the research
project.
