Date: September 25, 2025
Quarter: 2/Week 5
Time Allotment: 45 minutes
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the 45-minute lesson, learners should be able to:
1. Add decimal numbers with decimal parts of up to three decimal places
2. Apply addition of decimals in solving real-life word problems
3. Work collaboratively and show perseverance in solving problems
CONTENT
Addition of decimal numbers (up to 3 decimal places)
Application to real-life contexts (money, measurement, purchases)
INTEGRATION
21ST Century Skill: Thinking and Collaboration, Health and Wellness
II. LEARNING RESOURCES
MATATAG Curriculum Guide in Mathematics
Learner’s Module / Activity Sheets
Place value chart, mock money, visual aids
PowerPoint, Manila paper, markers
III. PROCEDURES
A. Review
Quick drill: Add decimals up to 2 decimal places.
1. 12.45 + 3.25 = ?
2. 9.75 + 8.20 = ?
Ask: “What do you notice about the decimal points in the answers?”
B. Lesson Proper
Lesson Purpose
Unlocking of Content Vocabulary
Before we proceed to our next lesson, let us first revisit some of the terminologies that we encounter
in our lesson
Decimal Point Hundredths Addends
Tenths Sum
1. Presentation / Discussion
Explain steps in adding decimals:
1. Line up decimal points.
2. Add digits according to place value.
3. Place the decimal point in the sum.
4. Add zeroes if needed to make decimals equal in length.
Example:
1. 23.145 + 12.236 = 35.381
2. 7.25 + 3.450 = 10.700
2. Group Activity
Divide class into 4 groups.
Each group solves a real-life problem written on Manila paper:
Group 1:
A pad paper costs ₱45.75, a notebook ₱89.95, and a ballpen ₱23.125. How much will all cost
together?
Group 2:
Ana poured 1.250 L of juice, 0.875 L of water, and 2.325 L of milk into a jug. How much liquid is in
the jug?
Group 3:
A tricycle ride costs ₱15.25, a jeepney ride ₱12.50, and a bus ride ₱45.75. How much will you
spend in total?
Group 4:
Ben read 23.125 pages in the morning, 15.50 pages in the afternoon, and 18.375 pages at night.
How many pages did he read in all?
Reporting: Groups present their solutions and reasoning.
3. Guided Practice
Solve as a class:
1. 15.325 + 24.125 = ?
2. 98.635 + 54.258 = ?
4. Generalization
Ask learners:
“What must we always remember when adding decimals?”
(Expected answers: Line up decimal points, add digits according to place value, add zeroes if needed,
place decimal point correctly).
Through today’s lesson, I realized that learning is not just about getting the correct answers but also
about using critical thinking to analyze problems carefully and choose the best steps to solve them.
Working with classmates in group activities also showed the importance of collaboration
Learning becomes easier when we take care of ourselves, stay focused, and ma intain a positive
mindset
C. Assessment / Independent Practice
Solve individually:
1. 78.325 + 15.475 = ?
2. 96.245 + 48.725 = ?
3. A dress costs ₱875.75, a bag ₱1,259.25, and shoes ₱1,125.50. How much do all cost together?
IV. ASSIGNMENT
Write two word problems involving addition of decimals (money, fare, measurements).
Solve your own problems with complete solutions.
