SEAQUAM SECONDARY SCHOOL PHYSICAL HEALTH EDUCATION 11

PHILOSOPHY The focus in this course is on preparing students to become active, healthy adults. Through the selection of appropriate activities in P.E. 11 students will: Become more proficient in selected physical and sport specific skills Be given the opportunity to experience and evaluate physical activity programs available in the community. Be given the opportunity to acquire certification useful after graduation Explore physical activity, health and recreation career related goals. Physical Health Education 11 is designed to be meaningful and enjoyable learning experiences that will prepare todays students for a productive adult life. COURSE COMPONENTS 1. PERFORMANCE ORIENTED ACTIVITIES Students will participate in 4 week units where skill development, participation, and cooperation will be emphasized. Examples of these units are: volleyball, football, basketball, badminton, and softball. 2. LEISURE ORIENTED UNITS The purpose of these activities is to expose students to various physical activities they may not otherwise experience. These activities may occur in the community or at school. The emphasis in these units will be on participation. Possible activities covered each year will be based on facility, cost and student interest. Examples of these activities are: dance, bowling, skating, climbing, swimming, etc. 3. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES The purpose of this section is to assist students in creating a portfolio of activities and certification in a wide variety of areas. A. STUDENT EXPECTATIONS: To maintain a level of good class standing students will be expected to: 1. Demonstrate leadership by displaying initiative towards all class undertakings and assume the necessary responsibility towards their successful completion. 2. Complete all assignments on time and in a satisfactory manner. 3. Attend all classes on time, in strip and actively participate, concentrating on the task at hand. 4. Conduct themselves in a responsible and mature manner at all times. Students using alcohol or drugs (including tobacco) during school functions will be disenrolled. 5. Submit all field trip permission forms and money on the date requested. Notes from parents will not be accepted as substitutes. Failure to do so will result in a forfeit of that activity. 6. Notify other teachers of any field trips well in advance and ask permission to miss class. 7. ATTENDANCE: Students must make up all missed work with excused absences upon their return to school. In the case of an unexcused absence, work can not be made up.
