Different Types of Connectors

BNC CONNECTOR
What is a BNC connector?It is a male type mounted at each end of a cable.

Importance:This connector has a center pin connected to the center cable conductor and a metal tube
connected to the outer cable shield. A rotating ring outside the tube locks the cable to any female
connector.

Description:Short for Bayonet Neill Concelman connector, (sometimes erroneously called a British Naval
Connector or Bayonet Nut Connector,a type of connector used with coaxial cables such as the RG-58 A/U
cable used with the 10base2 Ethernet system.
F-CONNECTOR
What is a F-connector?It is a type of connector that carries an RF signal and is commonly found on the
back of consumer VCRs and televisions.

Description:The professional style F-connectors have a small nut that secures the male and female ends
together.
PHONE CONNECTOR
What is a Phone Connector:A phone connector, also known as phone jack, audio jack, headphone jack or
jack plug, is a family of electrical connectors typically used for analog audio signals.

Description: It is 1/4¨ in diameter and single-pronged,with a little indentation near the end of the prong.
MINI CONNECTOR
What is a mini connector?It is cables used to easily connect field devices in industrial installations.

Description: it is ⅛ ¨ in diameter and is single-pronged.The mini looks similar to the ¼”connector,but is


smaller in size.
PHONO CONNECTOR
What is a Phono connector?It is a connector commonly found on the back of quality home entertainment
system components.The female phono connector is usually a chassis mounted connector.The male
phono connector is usually a cable end connector with a single,center prong surrounded by a shorter
corwn.
PL259 CONNECTOR
What is a PL259 Connector?The PL-259 is also known as a UHF connector with the common
male/female variants. The male UHF PL259 is the most common connector used to interconnect
equipment and antennas in ham shacks.
Y/C CONNECTOR
What is a Y/C connector?A video input and output connector that is characterized by four tiny round pins
and a rectangular plastic stabilizing pin.
XLR CONNECTOR
What is a XLR connector?The XLR connector is a style of electrical connector, primarily found on
professional audio, video, and stage lighting equipment.

Description:The connectors are circular in design and have between three and seven pins
FIREWIRE CONNECTOR
What is a firewire connector?Itis another popular connector for adding peripherals to your computer.

Importance:Firewire is most often used to connect digital camcorders, external hard drives, and other
devices that can benefit from the high transfer rates (up to 480 Mbps) supported by the Firewire
connection.
USB CONNECTOR
What is a USB connector?It is a connector between a computer and a peripheral device such as a
printer, monitor, scanner, mouse or keyboard. It is part of the USB interface, which includes types of ports,
cables and connectors.
HDMI CONNECTOR
What is a HDMI connector?It is a proprietary audio/video interface for transmitting uncompressed video
data and compressed or uncompressed digital audio data from an HDMI-compliant source device, such as
a display controller, to a compatible computer monitor, video projector, digital television, or digital audio
device.
T-CONNECTOR
What is a T-connector?It is an electrical connector that connects three cables together

Description:It is usually in the shape of a capital T.

Importance:It is usually used for coax cables and the three connector points can be either female or
male gender, and could be different or the same standard, such as F type, BNC or N type.
Y-CONNECTOR
What is a Y-connector? A glass or plastic connector that divides one incoming line
into two outgoing ones.A type of adapter that can be used to connect a single
device or cable to two devices or cables.
