HISTORY OF INTERNET

INTRODUCTION
 Internet is global system of interconnected
computer networks that interchange data.
 The internet carries various information
and services e.g Electronic mail ,online
chat ,file transfer ,file sharing & online
gaming etc.
 The Internet today is a widespread
information infrastructure.
Origins of the Internet
 ARPANET,The seeds of internet were planted in
1969,when the advanced research projects
agency[ARPA]of the U.S. Department of defense
began connecting computers at different universities
and defense contractors.the resulting network was
called ARPANET.
 The goal of ARPANET is to create large computer
networks with multiple paths.
 In 1973,another federal agency,the National Science
foundation[NSF] establish 5 “super computing
centers”
The Initial Inter netting
The link between ARPANET,NFSnet
and other networks was called the
internet.
Formation of broad
community
 Today,the internet is a
huge,cooperative community with no
central ownership.
 Although there are several
organizations [such as The Internet
Society and The World Wide Web
consortium]that propose standards for
internet related technologies and
guide lines for its appropriate use.
