Renaissance architecture
is the architecture of the
period between the early
15th and early 17th
centuries in different
regions of Europe, in
which there was a
conscious revival and
The Renaissance style places
emphasis on symmetry,
proportion, geometry and the
regularity of parts as they are
demonstrated in the architecture
of Classical antiquity and in
particular, the architecture of
Ancient Rome, of which many
examples remained. Orderly
arrangements of, columns,
pilasters and lintels, as well as
the use of semicircular arches,

The examples of popular
Renaissance architectures: De re

San Pietro in Montorio,
Tempio di Vesta, The remains
of the Colosseum, St. Peter’s
Cathedral, Pointed towers and
so on.
Many buildings in Europe, America,
Asia, and even in Hong Kong copied
the design from ancient Greco-
Roman architects. These buildings all
have a large dome, a lot of arches
and many tall stone columns. And
the artists add more elements on the
buildings, no wonder that art in later
times becomes more realistic, lively
and colorful.
Meanwhile, the British introduced
Victorian architecture and Edwardian
architecture styles from the mid-19th
Century onwards. Hong Kong
buildings were always built on Italian
Renaissance style.

between Renaissance and 19th Hong
Kong
- They both have large domes, a
lot of arches and many tall stone
columns.
- They both are ancient Greek and
Italian style.
The differences of the architecture
in the Renaissance and the 18th
century of Hong Kong
- During the early period of the 18th
century, since Hong Kong wasn't ruled by
the British Government at that time, the
architecture of Hong Kong at that time
didn't have any specific features.

- Unlike the ones in the Renaissance, they


had features like having large domes, tall
stone columns and arches, etc.

- The architecture in the Renaissance was


the "Greco Roman Style".
