From looking back at your preliminary task what do you feel you have you learnt in

the progression from it to the full product?

From looking back at my preliminary task I completed, I believe my final production is a huge
significance, it has improved a lot, It looks a lot more effective as I focused more on the different type of
shots and angles that work better for certain scenes. I have focused more upon the 180 degree rule as
this is essential for preserving the sense of realism in the production . By carrying out the preliminary task
it definitely gave me more confidence for when it came to the filming for my actual production as I had a
better knowledge on how to use the cameras.

The 180 Degree Rule..

The 180-degree rule is a basic guideline regarding the on-screen spatial relationship
between a character and another character or object within a scene, it is very important
and should be follow as much as possible in order to create an effective and logical
production. The rule is that the camera has to stay on the same side of the 180 degree
line, if this is crossed it may look confusing to the audience and the production may look
disorientated. During my preliminary task I broke the 180 degree rule as this was my first
time learning about it and filming, however I followed the 180 degree rule in my final
production as shown in the scenes below.

Match On Action

Match on action is an editing technique for continuity editing where one shot cuts
to another portraying the action of the subject in the first shot. In our production
match on action is shown when this character is shown opening the door in one
scene and it cuts to her closing the door when she leaves the house in the next
scene as shown in the images below.

Match On Action (Preliminary)

In the preliminary task match on action was more easier to apply than to our final production.
By using match on action in our production it helped the continuity flow throughout the
sequence and create a believable world for the audience. Here are some pictures of scenes
in the production where match on action has been used effectively. This is when the
protagonist is shown using the key to open the door and this is followed on in the next scene
when she is shown closing the door.

Shot Reverse Shot

Shot reverse shot is also a type of continuity editing used in conversations between characters, it is very
important as it shows a shot of what the character is looking at. In the final production we did not use a
shot reverse shot scene however we did use it in our preliminary this was shown when the characters
were having a conversation with each other as shown..

Overall, it is evident that our final production showed a greater amount of improvement compared to
our preliminary task, this is because we learnt about the importance of factors such as the 180 degree
rule and match on action and how important these are for the fluidity of the production. We also
incorporated a wider range of shots like close ups, over the shoulder, POV shots and wide shots.
