feedback

different types of practice and
guidance
What is skill?
 Thelearned ability to bring about a
pre-determined result with
maximum certainty and efficiency.
Open and Closed Skills
 What are they?
 Open = Movements may vary
depending on what is going on
around you (environment).
 Example….
 Receiving a pass in open play
during a Hockey match.
Open and Closed Skills
 Closed = Movements are always
exactly the same. They do not
depend on the environment.
 Example…..
 Forward somersault in
trampolining

yourself on the screen.
 What types of information and
feedback were you given, and was it
helpful?

 Verbal feedback - extrinsic
 Visual – Video/visual analysis software
- extrinsic
 This is known as….

Knowledge of
Performance (KP)

 What if you practice the wrong thing,
in the wrong way?
 Therefore, practice makes
permanent!
 It is important to make sure we
practice skills in a variety of ways
and situations, to learn it properly.
Practice
2 volunteers please!
 Hockey – push pass and receive
 Whole – Part – Whole
 Variable – Pass through gates,
progress to a small-sided game (4
more volunteers needed)
Guidance
 Think back to the practices you just
observed.
 When did I use visual guidance?
 What verbal guidance did I use?
 Was there any manual guidance?
 A good coach/teacher will use a combination
of the above.
Plenary
