Isabgol consists of dried seeds of the plant


Plantago ovata, belonging to the family
Plantaginaceae.

approximately 90000 MT to 100000
MT. As per trades view, both the
states contribute almost equally. But
recently, Rajasthan is getting an edge
over Gujarat in case of production.
Gujarat produces about 4045% of the
total production.

Cultivation

Soil: well drained loamy soil of pH 7.5-8.5

Weather: cool and dry

Method: Broadcasting method (6-12kg) in the


month of November

Irrigation: 7-8 times at an interval of 8 to 10


days

Fertilisers: Ammonium sulfate

Pesticides: 5% aldrin on soil control root eaters

Collection, Drying, Preparn

The crop is harvested in March/April

It is collected by cutting the plant just above the


ground

Convert it to sheaves and drying

Thrashing is done and thrashed material is


winnowed and sieved

Packed in suitable containers and sent to market
