WHAT IS
BLUETOOTH?

Bluetooth is simple and secure.

Bluetooth is a wireless technology standard for exchanging data over short
distances.
It is a wireless protocol that connects electronic devices when they are close
to each other
It is a cable replacement technology.

ORIGIN OF
BLUETOOTH

Bluetooth made its commercial debut in 1998.

It was standardized by a consortium of technology companies that came together to

found the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG).

Bluetooth was first developed in 1994 by Jaap Haartsen and Sven Mattisson while
the men were working for Sony Ericsson in Sweden.

The Bluetooth SIG chose the name Bluetooth after King Harald of Denmark. It was
also developed in a Scandinavian country. His nickname is Bluetooth.

DEVELOPMENT OF
BLUETOOTH

Bluetooth technology has now established itself in the

market place enabling a variety of devices to be connected
together using wireless technology.
Bluetooth technology has come into its own connecting
remote headsets to mobile phones, but it is also used in a
huge number of other applications as well.
In fact the development of Bluetooth technology has
progressed so that it is now an integral part of many
household items.
Cell phones and many other devices use Bluetooth for
short range connectivity. In this sort of application,
Bluetooth has been a significant success.

COMPONENTS OF
BLUETOOTH
Four major components:
Radio Unit(radio transceiver)
Baseband Unit (flash memory
& CPU)
Software Stack (driver
software)
Application Software (user
interface)

FEATURES

Bluetooth technology features allow paired devices such as mobile phones

and headsets or keyboards and computers to communicate wirelessly.

Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) is a one-way Bluetooth

feature that is designed for streaming music, usually from a MP3 equipped
cell phone to a headphone.

Bluetooth waves typically can only travel 33 feet or less.

ADVANTAGES

Bluetooth technology is very inexpensive and

almost all wireless, and some non-wireless
devices are already equipped with Bluetooth
technology.
There is no need to configure any settings as the
automatic synchronizing does it for you.
It also uses a standardized wireless protocol,
meaning that two devices within range, no
matter the make or model, can talk and
communicate with each other without changing
settings.
