This digipak uses a contrast between the artist and the


background colour. Using the rule of thirds the artist covers all
three thirds denoting her importance. Her direct eye line will
engage with the audience and make them more likely to form
personal relationships (uses and gratifications theory) with the
artist meaning they will be more willing to spend extra money
on the artist. The heavy black make up which can be denoted
around the artists eyes contrasts with her bright blue eyes
signifies darkness vs light which could be a theme mirrored
through the album. The binary opposite used within the title of
the album, which juxtaposes crying and laughing together.
This may leave the audience questioning the meaning of the
statements and wanting to find out more themselves, and
therefore buying the album. By the artist having wet hair
clinging to her face it connotes layers of her personality as it
gives the image itself layers as it is not one clear head shot.
The choice of the colour baby pink as the backdrop reinforces
the dominant ideology that pink represents the female gender
and may connote to the demographic that the artist is taking
old stereotypes and remodelling them and making them her
own. High key lighting is used to connote to the audience this
