Poster/Cover Textual

Analysis

White is used
unconventionally on the
poster. It is a colour
associated with the
scream series because of
the iconic white mask.

The white is used on the

face to make the woman
look pale. That could be
an indication of fear. That
goes very well with her
scared expression.

The tagline at the top of

the poster and the title at
the bottom is
unconventional. The first
thing the reader viewer
will see in this case is the
slogan, which perhaps
gives more intrigue
before seeing the title.

Red is used as it is a
colour that connotes
fear and danger. It is
also associated with
blood.

The victim in the

foreground and the
killer in the background
is possible
foreshadowing to the
movie, where the victim
doesnt know that the
killer is there.

The tight corridor is

used to increase
paranoia of the viewer
and makes you
emphasize for the
victim that bit more.

The dripping, red text

connotes blood. That
also suggests that this is
perhaps a slasher film,
as the dripping text is
conventional in that
subgenre.

The hand holding the

bag does not look
human. This suggests
that the killer is not
human, and is some kind
of alien or monster killer.

The bag is red as it is the

known colour for fear.
The face being seen
suggests a slasher film,
as the head has clearly
been separated from the
body.

The focus of the

cover being the
long face of the
scream mask
makes the
magazine stand
out as its an
iconic mask and
its bright, so it will
catch the eye of
the non-scream
fan.
The main cover
line is quite basic,
but the word
scream is white
to match the mask
and the word
when its written
on the poster.

The common
theme of white on
the cover suggests
purity and
cleanliness. It also
possibly suggests
safety, which is
the opposite of the
films themes.

The focus of the

cover is the sinister
image of the
character. Despite
being dark, it still
stands out and the
darkness fits the
genre. Its also a
recognizable image
from the Hannibal
series, which will
draw attention to
fans.

The red text fits with

the horror genre. The
connotations of the
colour include: fear,
danger and strength

The text of Gore

Blimey and the
below cover lines
use puns. This could
encourage someone
to buy the magazine
as it shows there is
some humour
involved.

The main cover

line Scream 2
draws attention
immediately as it
is bright yellow in
a demanding font.
Its also a wellknown and
popular film series
so that will draw
attention to its
fans.
The background is
red, that is a clear
link to the horror
film being focused
in the main cover
line and main
cover image. The
connotations of
red include fear
and it is iconic
with the horror

The main cover

image of Courtney
Cox and Neve
Campbell will
draw attention as
they are both very
famous actresses.
Fans of both of
them will see
them on the
magazine and buy
it to find out about
their newest film.
