ORIGIN

Hedgehogs are part of the Erinaceinae family

They can be found throughout Europe, Asia, and Africa
Other names for hedgehogs areurchins,hedgepigs,andfurzepigs

DOMESTICATION

Hedgehog domestication became popular in the 1980s

The most common hedgehogs kept as pets are the African

pygmy hedgehog, the long-earedhedgehog, and the Indian
long-eared hedgehog

In some places in the U.S. and Canada it is illegal to keep a

hedgehog as a pet

Caring for a Hedgehog

Hedgehogs require attention daily

They must be held frequently to stay friendly
Most hedgehogs will eat corn, peas, chicken, eggs,
strawberries, apples, and even yogurt
They are nocturnal and must have a wheel for exercise
