History beforepaper
Before paper was invented, the Chinese were on search for something to write on. They
tried stone, bone and wood but those items were to heavy to carry and hard to transport.
After a while, people tried silk sheets. Silk sheets was the best option to write on out of all
of the other attempted materials. However, silk sheets were not cheap at all and the poor
could not afford such expensive material. Finally, in the early 2nd century AD, Cai Lun,
invented a thin material that made the world an easier place, it was paper!

When did this invention spread all over

the world?
Its knowledge and uses spread from China through
theMiddle East to medieval Europein the 13th century,
where the first water powered paper mills were
built.Because of paper's introduction to the West
through the city of Baghdad (IRAQ), it was first called
Bagtadikos. In the 19th century, industrial manufacture
greatly lowered its cost, enabling mass exchange of
information and contributing to significant cultural
shifts. In 1844, the Canadian inventor Charles
Fenertyand the German F. G. Keller independently
developed processes for pulping wood fibers.. It Finally
spread to the middle east at the Battle of talles
( Uzbekistan). The ottoman empire managed to capture
2 soldiers who knew the secret to paper making. They
exchanged their knowledge for their freedom.
