Introduction to MS Access and Outlook

Mr. Deven Patel

MS Access
Microsoft Access, also known as Microsoft Office Access, is a
database management system from Microsoft that combines
the relational Microsoft Jet Database Engine with a graphical
user interface and software-development tools. It is a
member of the Microsoft Office suite of applications,
included in the Professional and higher editions or sold
separately. On May 12, 2010, the current version of
Microsoft Access 2010 was released by Microsoft in Office
2010; Microsoft Office Access 2007 was the prior version.

Access Versus Excel

Excel may be fine if you've only got a

small amount of data, and if you
don't have many attributes against
each piece of data
you need to generate a lot of queries
and reports. Access is much better
suited for doing this compared to
Excel.

Computer Networks

Personal area network

Local area network

A home area network (HAN) is a residential LAN which is used for

communication between digital devices typically deployed in the home,
usually a small number of personal computers and accessories, such as
printers and mobile computing devices.

Storage area network

A local area network (LAN) is a network that connects computers and

devices in a limited geographical area such as home, school, computer
laboratory, office building, or closely positioned group of buildings.

Home area network

A personal area network (PAN) is a computer network used for

communication among computer and different information
technological devices close to one person.

A storage area network (SAN) is a dedicated network that provides

access to consolidated, block level data storage.

Campus area network

A campus area network (CAN) is a computer network made up of an

interconnection of LANs within a limited geographical area.

An enterprise private network is a network built by an enterprise to interconnect

various company sites, e.g., production sites, head offices, remote offices, shops,
in order to share computer resources.wan is wide area network

Virtual private network

A Metropolitan area network (MAN) is a large computer network that usually spans
a city or a large campus.

Enterprise private network

A backbone network is part of a computer network infrastructure that

interconnects various pieces of network, providing a path for the exchange of
information between different LANs or subnetworks.

A virtual private network (VPN) is a computer network in which some of the links
between nodes are carried by open connections or virtual circuits in some larger
network (e.g., the Internet) instead of by physical wires
