Week 4: Shape and Angles

Warm Up:
Describe 2D shapes
Display Shape Game board (next page).
Choose a shape.
In pairs, write at least 5 facts about it.
Feedback
Teacher to secretly choose a shape: you need
to work out which it is by asking questions
about its properties to which teacher can
only answer only yes or no.

In pairs, think how you

would explain what a
radius, diameter and
circumference are to
someone who cant
see this diagram.
Describe the
relationship between
the diameter and
radius as a ratio

Activity:
It is less obvious if there is a relationship
between the circumference and the
diameters or radius. But today you will find
out!
Lets remind ourselves how to use a pair of
compasses to draw a circle with given radius.
If we draw a circle with a radius of 5cm, what
will the diameter be?
How could we measure the circumference?

Main Task:
Work in pairs to use compasses to draw lots
of different circles with different radii.
Use string to measure the circumference as
accurately as you can and record the
lengths of the radius, diameter and
circumference in a table.
Look for a relationship between the
diameter and the circumference.

Warm Up Activity
What is symmetry?
Draw as many shapes as you can think of
that only have one line of symmetry
Now try shapes with 2 lines of symmetry
Which regular shapes have 3 or more lines
of symmetry?

Activity:
What do we remember about angles?
I will ask you some questions and on the strip
of paper you need to write your answers.
Have a go on your own please!
