Area and Location
Cebu in Central Visayas

is bounded on the north
by the Visayan sea, on
the east by the Camotes
Sea, on the west by the
Tannin Strait, and on the
southeast by the Boohoo
Strait. The province has a
total land area of 508840
square km.
Geographic Profile

The province is a narrow strip of land


about 200 km long from north to south
and 41 km at its widest. It has a
backbone of rugged mountains rising to
1012 meters in the center. Narrow plains
can be found along the islands coastline.
About 166 smaller islands surround the
main island of Cebu.
How to Get There
Several shipping lines have services to
this province from Manila as well as
surrounding provinces in the Visayas and
Mindanao region. Commercial airlines have
daily flights going to Cebu via Mactan
International Airport. There are also number
of international flights going to Cebu.

Argao
Is one of the most frequented tourist
destinations in Cebu because of its white
sand beaches and dive sites.

Nino
This church was built
by Miguel Lopez de
Legaspi and Fr.
Andres Urdaneta on
the site where the
image of Sto. Nino
was found in the
1565. The original
structure however,
was destroyed by
the fire on November
1, 1568. The church
was rebuilt in 1602.

Cathedral
The Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, also
called as The Metropolitan Cathedral of
the Most Holy Name of Jesus and St.
Vitalis, is the ecclesiastical seat of the
Metropolitan Archdiocese of Cebu. The
cathedral was first constructed in 1689,
completed in 1909, and rebuilt in 1950
after it was almost destroyed during World
War 2.
The Heritage of Cebu Monument
The Heritage of Cebu Monument
Located in the original Plaza Parain in Colon
Street, Cebu City, the landmark is a tableau
of monumental sculptures showcasing the
most important events in the history of
Cebu from the time of Rajah Humabon to
the recent beatification of Cebuano martyr
Pedro Calunsod. The monument is a work of
national artist Edgardo Castrillo. It was
started in July 1997 and inaugurated on
December 8, 2000
The Taoist Temple
The Taoist Temple
Located in Beverly Hills Subdivision in Cebu
City, the Taoist Temple is one of the most
popular tourist spots in the city. It was built
in 1972 by Cebus Chinese community, and
is the center of worship for Taoism. The
temple is open for worshippers and
tourists.
Colon Street
Colon Street
the oldest street in the Philippines. It was
named after Cristobal Colon, popularly
known as Christopher Columbus. The street
was developed during the Spanish
Colonization under Miguel Lopez de Legaspi,
the Spanish navigator and governor who
established the first settlement in the
Philippines in 1565.

isolated beach paradise. The beach

Fort San Pedro

The work on the fort was firststarted
onMay 8, 1565 bySpanish and indigenous
Cebuanos under the command of Miguel
Lpez de Legazpi. Fort San Pedro is located
in Plaza Indepedencia in the pier area of
Cebu City.
Mactan Shrine

the 20-meter tall monument ofRajah
Lapu-Lapu, the first Filipino herowho was
responsible for defeating the Spaniards and
killing Spanish Conquistador Ferdinand
Magellan during the battle of Mactan in
April 27, 1521. Mactan Shrine is located in
Punta Engano Section of Lapu Lapu City in
Mactan Island.

these giants with krill to keep them in the
area, a practice that is seen as ultimately
harmful to these creatures.
Canyoneering
Canyoneering
Comspostela is the original name of the
hidden canyons but it is very wellknown
under the name Alegria (starting point) or
Kawasan Falls (which is the end point of our
tour). The tour starts 200 meters above the
sea level and ends where the river flows
into the ocean.

Sinulog Festival
The Sinulog festival is one of the grandest,
most distinguished and most colorful festivals
in the Philippines. The major festival is held
each year on the third Sunday of January in
Cebu City to honor the Santo Nio, or the
child Jesus, who used to be thepatronsaint of
the whole province of Cebu (since in the
Catholic faith Jesus is not a saint, but God). It
is fundamentally a dance ritual which
remembers the Filipino people's pagan past
and their recognition of Christianity.

the home of the countrys best Lechon makers.
Cebus Lechon, especially Lechon Belly (the
Boneless Lechon) is also one of the specialties
you shouldnt miss to try during your visit in the
city.
