DIRECT RECORDING

B.Vineeth.
B130942EE
It is the simplest method of recording and usually
requires one tape track for each channel
The signal to be recorded is amplified mixed with higher
frequency bias
The combined signal is applied to record head.
Output voltage of reproduce head is proportional to
frequency.
So, as recorded frequency approaches 0 output voltage
falls to zero.
Gap length in reproduce head has to be small compared
to wavelength of highest frequency to be detected.
Advantages
Wide frequency response ranging from 50Hz to 2MHz.
Simple, Moderately priced circuitry.
It is used to record signals where information is on
relation between frequency and amplitude.
It can be used for recording voice and in multiplexing a
number of channels of information into one channel of
tape recording.
Disadvantages
The direct recording caused by some amplitude
instability caused by random surface homogenities in
tape coating and due to poor manufacturing is called
"Drop Out".
Direct recording is used only when maximum bandwidth
is required and when variations in amplitude are
acceptable.
Direct recording , no doubt can be used for
Instrumentation purposes but mostly used for recording
of speech and music.
