How effective is the combination of your main
media product and ancillary task?
The Digipak
THE Digipak above is the Digipak created for the album misfortune. Each part to the
digipak has many different synergistic connotations in which can be explored by the
demographic.
Front cover
The front cover of a digipak is essential in engaging the
target audience. The large main image on the misfortune
front cover automatically denotes who the artist is. The
medium close up shot uses exposes the artists clothing. The
black coat signifies the darkness he has on the outside after
the experiences he has faced where as the top he is
wearing juxtaposing this darkness.
Putting the artist in the white top allows the demographic to
encode the innocence and purity he has inside. This links to
the binary opposites theory exploring the deep
connotations of Dark v Light.
The main image also shows a dark, wet and gloomy school corridor. Overlaying this image over
the character offers an sensational enigma for the target audience to explore on a connotative
level. The ideology behind this image is the fact that the artist is denoted as being trapped. The
main song of the album is a song based on bullying the artist experienced, so placing this image
onto of the artists chest denotes this issue is forever haunting him and was the inspiration behind
the album.
The Name of the artist is in black to connote a synergistic relationship with the artists clothing
and deeper feelings whereas the title is white juxtaposing the the overall negative enigmas
Middle page 1
The following panoramic shot is synergistic to the image used in the previous page.
Similarly to the Guitar , the music studio has been used to denote a place of escape for the
demographic. The high key , saturated lighting connotes the energy and satisfaction he
gets when he is writing or performing music. The music studio used in the image is also
used in the music video denoting intertextuality between the artists products connoting a
synergistic relationship between the two products. This is essential in order to ensure the
audience can easily distinguish between and relate to the media products produced by the
artist.
Back cover.
The back cover of the digipak is arguably just as
important as the front cover. As well as having a
lot of information regarding the album itself, the
back cover is usually the second image the artists
see as they turn to see what songs are on the
album. The cover denotes an establishing shot of
a long and empty road in which a medium shot
denotes the main artist and character walking.
Just like the Front cover, it can be said that om a
connotative level the ideologies being explored
are very negative juxtaposing the inside content .
The empty road used connotes that loneliness the character was experiencing when writing
this album. As the image suggests, the road was used to signify that there was no escape
from the artists. Wherever the artist would go the problems he would face was there following
him
The other songs in the album express this through the font and the color. The Black text used
alongside the sharp and dented font. Both connote darkness and evil which is extended
connotation to the main front cover.
Poster
Artists name is the only
thing located in the top
left hand corner to Transparent clothing
ensure the audience connoting the emptiness in
can quickly realize who which the character felt when
the artist is. This is an writing this album. Image also
essential code and connotes that people would
convention to also never really notice him.
media posters
The music video itself also shows a synergistic link through the scenes of the character all
alone in different areas, The same denotations and significations can be explored as the dark
filters offer the same enigmas to the demographic
Thirdly all aspects of this media production also juxtapose this negative atmosphere denoted
by offering inspiration and brighter colours to try and motivate viewers. This links to the uses
and gratifications theory as some audience members may find themselves relating to the
images used. Inspirational quotes are found both on the digipak and the music video so the
audiene are able to look at the bright side of such a negative issue.
