Planning the graphics 6.

By Bradley Emmens
Summary of the band interview
The band doesn’t have a band name yet, the names of the band is Louie
major, Harvey bartlett and Harley carter. The band that inspired them is
Matt hardy.
The type of music they play is drill, bass and electrical music. The use of
props or signs are mask and gloves just imaging a bank robbery.
Use of colours will be Darker colours making it feel gothic.
The information on the poster would be the name of the band, the date.
The band are all doing production and the music editing software they
use is logic.
The brief
I am working as a junior graphics developer for a small company that creates
graphics. A collage band has approached your company and has asked you to
create two graphics a vector graphic logo and an A4 bitmap graphic poster to
promote the band. Before starting to create the logo and poster I need to meet
the band to get an idea of what they want to see. I can then start planning and
designing the logo and poster.
The poster should contain their logo images of the band any necessary graphics
that relate to the bands image and identify (flames, skulls, hearts, flowers etc)
and text information about the location, time and date of their upcoming gig,
the gig is based at Wiltshire college and the audience is 18-25 and is to attract
fans of hip hop or drill music, because the gig is based in Wiltshire college the
audience will be college students, teachers and possibly parents of students.

I prefer idea 1 because the font and colours stands out. Idea 1 has good
use of images that work well with the bands name, some good colours and
a easy to read font. I don’t like Idea 2 because the colours don’t work well
together, the pointy shapes I don’t think fits with the name of the band
and the font.

I think idea 2 is better than idea 1 because its easier to work with. Idea two fits
nicely with every thing else on the poster, it not having a border makes more space
to work with, the landscape being portrait means I can fit everything in with ease
and the colours should be easier to read. Idea 1 wouldn’t work because the black
borders wouldn’t fit with the rest of the poster the colours would make it difficult
to read and it being landscape would make it difficult to fit everything in.

Justifying plans
The band requested the pictures to be colourful and they would wear masks and gloves the photos we took we used filters on the lights to make It
more colourful and the band were wearing gloves and had their hoods up, they wanted darker colours for the logo and poster.
I met the needs of the bands audience by making the logo unique, coloured photos of the band members and put when the gig is, what date, and the
location of the gig in the poster.
• Summary of the band interview
We started out by interviewing the members of the band and asked them questions about what they do what type of music they are making. This helped me to get an idea of what they want for the logo,
poster.
• Discussion of the brief scenario
I have analysed and summarised the brief so I had a clear understanding of what I needed to do.
• Discussion of the audience
I have done some research of the audience the gig is in college so I have an understanding of who the audience will be. Knowing who the audience are helped me design the band poster and logo.
• Mind maps for logos and poster
The mind maps helped me figure out what I wanted to do with the logo and poster by splitting up my ideas into two ideas both with different fonts, images or shapes, the logo being on the top or bottom of the
poster and the landscape of the poster. Which gave me an idea of the strengths and weaknesses of each idea
• Asset list
To show the assets I have used in the poster or logo with the links to certain assets found on the internet to not breach copyright. This also helped me understand what assets I'm using and where they are from
• Layout designs
The layout designs gave me an idea of what the layout of the logo and poster ideas would look like by using different assets or by hand drawing them both. Which helped me design the prototypes of the logo
and poster
• Prototypes
The prototypes were an extension to the logo and poster layout designs with a few tweaks and looks nicer, they were made in Adobe photoshop and illustrator. Because I used them in photoshop and illustrator
I have a starting point for them both so I can continue improving the logo and poster.
• Photos of the band
we took photos of the band in a photography studio, we used different coloured filters on the lights to create a colourful effect on the band. We took lots of photos of the band so we have a range to choose
from and we can easily cut out the image if needed.
• Your alternative ideas
I used my mind maps and look at the strength and weakness of each of the 4 ideas and I chose the best two ideas to use for the poster and logo.
