A chefs uniform is important for a professional


look, but the uniform has important protective
aspects for the chef.
Chef Coat
Double-breasted to protect from the heat
Long sleeved to protect from grease spatters and
burns
Chef Pants
Long to protect from heat, grease spatters, and burns
Darker colors and patterns tend to show less staining

Protects from hot spills and spatters
Should be removed when leaving kitchen area

Chef Shoes
Should be comfortable, well-constructed, and
close-toed
Slip-resistant, rubber soles can help prevent falls
from spills

Gloves
Protects hands from injury when cleaning and
also prevents contamination of food
Hands should always be washed before putting
on gloves
Jewelry
Refrain from wearing jewelry in the kitchen
Jewelry may be caught in moving parts of
machine or dropped unnoticed into food being
prepared
