As we all know, floods pose a big threat to our society.
Especially when the
damages a certain flood brings is severe. This study focuses on a river that's located in a small barangay known as Tup-on, that was once hit by a devastating flood.
The barangay can be
found in the northern part of Mindanao and is one of the barangays in the municipality of Medina. It was in the year 1999 when the flood struck. It was fortunate that there were no casualties.
But the damages
include multiple houses, a chapel and fields of fruit trees.
The width of the river
also increased from an estimated value of 5m to Picture of 1999 flood. 20m. To fix the problem of the increasing width of the river and the damages the river would contribute every time it would rain heavily, the Barangay Officials of Tup-on decided to have dikes constructed on the side of the river. Up until this time, the dike remains standing.
However, some portions of it are already destroyed. Recommendation:
Since the dikes sustained damages
from the previous floods, in order for it to continue its purpose, it is recommended to have it repaired before the situation turns dire.
