WIRELESS ECG MONITORING

SYSTEM FOR THE DETECTION

OF CARDIAC ARRHYTHMIA

JESNA.K.A

1
INTRODUCTION

Now-a-days heart related diseases are on the rise.

According to WHO,16 million people around the

world each year died of CVD and around 20 million
people are at the risk of sudden heart failure[6].

ECG of patients with cardiac arrhythmia need to be

monitored continously .

2
ECG(ELECTROCARDIOGRAM)
It is the recording of electrical potential produced
by the excitation of cardiac muscle.

 Normal ECG results:

Heart rate: 60 to 100 beats per min.
Heart rhythm: consistent and even.
3
CARDIAC ARRHYTHMIA:
 It is the disturbances(abnormalities) in the
heart rhythm.

 Bradycardia: slow heart rate(below 60

beats/min)
 Tachycardia: fast heart rate(above 100
beats/min)
 Atrial Fibrillation: irregular heart rhythm.

4
EXISTING ECG MONITORING
DEVICES

5
OVERVIEW :
 To design a wireless ECG monitoring system for the
detection of arrhythmia situation and transmitting real
time medical information(ECG) to a clinical station.

6

7
ECG SIGNAL PROCESSING

ECG signal processing consist of 2 stages.

8
Different approaches for ECG signal
processing ,
PREPROCESSING:
 Digital Filter approach
 Wavelet based approach

FEATURE EXTRACTION:
 Template matching QRS Detection technique
 Differentiation based QRS Detection
technique.

9
DIFFERENT POSSIBILITIES OF WIRELESS
COMMUNICATIONS

 Thecommunication between patient unit and

hospital monitoring center can be possible by,
 Bluetooth module

 GSM

 GPRS

10
POSSIBLE OUTCOME:

 Detect cardiac disorder of the patients

who are located in the remote areas and
are not in a position to report to the
doctor for immediate treatment.

 This real time monitoring provides

greater quality of life and lower care cost.
