CUTTING PITCH
Angle with which cutting edge contact the spread
All machine has a cutting pitch

Straight Knife- perpendicular to the base plate(i.e. 90

degree)

Straight

Spread 90˚
 If the edge forms a line leaning into the spread as the
line progresses from base plate to the top ,the pitch is less
than 90˚.

Vertical blade develop less than a 90˚ pitch, after the

blade have been used for various spread heights.

Spread <90˚
 Rotary blade have curved pitches which are less than 90˚.
The pitch of the circular blade is equal to the curvature of
the cutting arc in the spread.
The arc of the blade perimeter from the base plate to the
top surface of the spread.

Spread
<90˚
If the spread is higher than the radius of the
blade, the cutting pitch is two–way or reversible
pitch.

Spread
<90˚
The pitch of any cutting machine dictates the cutting
method to be used.
Hence a vital factor in choosing a cutting machine
for the given spread.
The greater the diameter of the rotary blade, the
greater the lateral difference in the pitch.
This means top ply will be cut sooner then the bottom

ply.
 When a rotary cut a spread whose height is greater
than the blade radius- center plies ( )will be cut
soonest, the top plies next( ) , and the bottom
plies ( ) last.

 In order to get a perpendicular cutting line, the

machine must be held stationary while the cutter
raises the bottom plies vertically until they are cut
with perfect perpendicular alignment.

Spread
<90˚
 Here the cutter must know the lateral difference between
the lead cutting point of the blade and cutting point of the
top.
The lead cutting point of a rotary cutting machine is the

first cutting of the blades cutting pitch.

The cutter must stop propelling a rotary machine in a
spread when the lead cutting point contacts a pattern area
at any angle.
If he continues, the lead point will cut the garment section.
