AGE PROBLEM

Tips:
• One Variable is assigned every person mentioned in
the problem
• In making equation, linking verbs (i.e. is, was.. Etc)
are usually but not necessarily equality, depending
on how it is used in the problem.
• In table form solution, the following modifiers of
time are very important
AGE PROBLEM
Modifiers
• Past Age – was, were, ago, last, yesterday...
• Present Age – is, are, am, now, being
• Future Age – will, shall be, further, hence...
Note:
• No. Of years passed by: Present – Past
• No. Of years to come: Future – Present

Remember: Analyze the problem - Use Variables - Create

equation - Use Table/ equation or reverse engineering
AGE PROBLEM

Involve One Person &

Involve more than One Person
• Analyze - Determine the
relationships
• Use Table Age 1
WORK PROBLEM
Case 1: Total man-hr to complete work = Sum
of individual man-hr
Case 2: Sum of unit work = total unit work
Case 3: Work (Unit work) multiplied by time
is equal to unity (completion)

MIXTURE PROBLEM
Analysis 1: Quantity Analysis
A+B=C
Analysis 2: Composition Analysis
Ax+By=Cz
Note: x,y,z are percentage composition

Age 1
DIGIT PROBLEM
If the problem involves interchanging of the
digits in the integer then you would need to
convert from the digits to numbers and vice
versa. To convert the digits to numbers, we
need to multiply with the digit with
the place value of the digit.

MOTION PROBLEM
Motion Problems in algebra are classified as
uniform motion, No acceleration is
involved, thus; the only equation involved
is distance (S) equals Rate (V) times time
(t)
